For example, cancer cells are sometimes modified to make them grow faster or to bypass (resist) some biological control pathways so the cancer can be more easily studied. Is that "weaponization" of that cancer? Or is it medical research?

The US funded research at Wuhan. The US had US researchers at Wuhan working in collaboration with Wuhan researchers UNTIL TRUMP PULLED THEM OUT IN 2017-2018. (Trump thought it was a waste of ~$1M per year.) Those researchers would have learned of "Patient Zero" at Wuhan MONTHS earlier and reported it to the NIH / CDC _if_ they had still been there.

Some scientists, but not the majority, call the modifications to the viruses in order to study them "weaponization" because they might grow faster or are more infectious or infectious in a new way. Most scientists do not call it weaponization. I do not think that ANYONE thinks that this was "bioweapon" research. There's no "we got him" from GOP, the "we" is the Dem DOJ. Joe Biden's DOJ is prosecuting Hunter Biden -- but only after getting caught trying to do a sweetheart deal not available to others. The GOP is not in position to charge Hunter. Only the Dems are. They own this 100%. They could say, hey, this law is unconstitutional and we won't enforce it. If they don't believe it is unconstitutional how could they not enforce it? Hunter is being subjected to a law that liberals believe in. Most gun rights conservatives would love for the DOJ to stop enforcing this unconstitutional law for everyone, not just for Biden crime family members.
Republicans are giving these gun charge indictments the side eye. What about the FARA allegations? The tax evasion charges? Is the DOJ going to keep the public occupied with constitutionally questionable gun charges while the statute of limitations runs out on the more serious corruption cases?
That said, it will be interesting to see how the weapons case plays out.
Will the law Hunter is charged on be thrown out by the SCOTUS? Would be ironic if it was a Biden DOJ that ended up loosening laws on gun ownership.
