General Details

In some of his best work, Willie Nelson talks about the intense, almost haunting nature of some of his experiences with women. Anyone familiar with Willie knows it all comes from the heart. "So leave me if you need to, I will still remember, Angel flying too close to the ground". It's what Curly was trying to explain to Mitch when he told him the story about the redhead in City Slickers. It's about the appreciation of the moments you know won't last, and accepting that that is part of what makes them beautiful and worthy of memory. And, in Willie's inimitable style, it comes out not as a lament, but as a powerful and enriching remembrance--a moment that never loses its luster in memory. A moment of pure joy is all the more deeply felt--or at least should be--because of its impermanence. A moment like the enchanting time I spent with the young, beautiful, sweet, flawless, engaging Natalia, this angel holds you with the light in her eyes for the time that you are together, and the warmth of her smile starts to burning, and the thrill of her touch gives you fright, and you're shaking so much, really yearning. But then she makes it all right. Soon your body will start to quiver. And the palms of your hands will get wet. And she will make it alright. This nonpareil, this angel will make it alright. And you get to take that memory with you. Lucky bastard.

As I write this, I have already seen her a second time. And my initial impressions are confirmed and underscored. Damn!

Fly on, fly on, past the speed of sound.
