How sure are you that he is a cop?  Guys buy cop badges and use them to impress gals from time to time.  One gal told me about such a situation.

If you are going to call his precinct I'd suggest you block your number or use a burner phone...NOT your hobby phone.  
PD caller IDs in most major departments have to be very sophisticated for several reasons.  

It's a nice, simple, no-strings transaction.  And that has zip to do with being LE or not.

You didn't know they were cops, doesn't your screening turn that up in advance?

Depends on which department (and their equipment) and what type of phone you're using.

Then you didn't see them for very long.  
I was a homicide detective in one of America's largest cities.  
You'd be surprised by how many cops go bad.  
They're not hired because they're boy scouts.  
Boy scouts don't kick in doors and fight bad guys in the middle of the night.  
PTSD is prevalent.  
If you need the money go for it.  
If you don't I'd stay away

Cops can be vindictive!  Suppose he becomes too clingy and you want to end it.  He has the potential to make your life miserable.
I have granted unconditional pardons and commuted death sentences to Life in Prison during my tenure as Governor. But I have never involved myself in the judicial processes when dealing with overzealous Cops and Prosecutors!

Cops get ingrained with a privilege attitude after a while.  
So many store owners, kiosk keepers etc give you free stuff you get used to it.  
Besides, most of the cops I know are paying alimony and child support.  
They don't have that much disposable income.  
Yes, they're men too but a much different viewpoint on life.  
Probably why most cops hang out with other cops in cop bars.  
The groupies are called badge bunnies and are always available.  
Many are young and athletic.

Well, if you're talking to me it's a moot point.  
Got into medicine, no longer live near the city where I carried a shield.  
And I maintained a different set of values. I went right from two deployments into LE. I never developed the "us vs them" mentality.  
Regardless, I'm amused by all these people who are concerned about who will or won't see them  
I've only had one denial in all these years
