another site has notified its members that it will be going dark very soon.
Since they post reviews I assume that I can't mention their name or include a link, but it's initials are MR.

A lot of mongers will need to go somewhere else to find Massage providers and providers will lose one more advertising venue in the once great Republic of the USA. Good thing I moved to Canada!

The only site with those initials that comes to mind is Massage Republic. I have no idea if that's actually the site about to go dark, or not. Also, it's not that great a site, IMHO, and I would characterize it as mostly ads and comments, not reviews, with an occasional Q & A with providers. If my assessment is shared by the mods, they shouldn't have any problem with this post.

No, it wasn't (note the past tense) much of a "review" site, but more of a mall for browsing. My post was more of a commentary on that site deciding to give up in the USA, much like TER did a year ago. Apparently they have no reason to believe a WIN for the industry is on the horizon.

This website only will delete the USA secton, not the rest of the world.

US-based listings are gone but the site is still accessible from the US. So I guess that means I can still easily search Massage Republic for a hot Argentina babe for my next trip to Barcelona.

Virtually EVERY member of Congress, with only a very few exceptions, on BOTH sides of the aisle voted for FOSTA/SESTA including ALL the Democratic members of Congress currently running for POTUS, Ironically one of the only two Senators that voted against it was previous REPUBLICAN candidate for POTUS, Rand Paul.

Conversely, there are seven current Democratic senators running for POTUS, every single one of them voted FOR FOSTA/SESTA.

Consensual adult sex work, especially if it avoids the current-era minefields of interstate commerce and "trafficking," generally falls under state and local jurisdiction. FOSTA-SESTA which is, as has been correctly observed, a bipartisan "do-gooder" monstrosity that pre-dates Trump, weaves elements of both those minefields with overbroad and vague language such that no one wants to be the first test case. If some local jurisdictions were to legalize it, as DC and NY are discussing, that might go a long way toward forcing some kind of resolution or at least some kind of accommodation, as in Federal vs State differences re marijuana. As for Trump, or any other politician (GOP or DEM), there's nothing in the current climate that would tend to elevate this issue to the top of anyone's agenda. It's a sure-fire loser since activists on both the left and the right would be sure to pounce. Whatever you feel about Trump, you could insert pretty much anyone else into his spot and, at least on this issue, you'd get pretty much the same result.

No politician is going to be allowed to state "I am for the freedom to do what you want with your own body" That stance would be IMMEDIATELY be twisted into "I am for human trafficking" and NO ONE wants to be cast as a defender of the horrible crime of human trafficking, it would be political suicide.

That said, no one wanted to be cast as a defender of gays or stoners either once upon a time, but eventually those policies shifted as public opinion changed over the years. The big difference is that MILLIONS of gays came out and said "we're here, we're queer, deal with it" with the stoners basically sending the same message that they were mainstream, good people who were tired or being persecuted/prosecuted for behavior that affected no one but themselves. If whores and whoremongers would stand up and be counted "maybe" we could see some progress on our front too, but by and large hookers and johns don't have the courage of conviction to stand up for ourselves. Let's face it, the stoners and fags have a LOT more guts than we do as a group. Both hookers and johns alike are so ashamed of what we do that they are afraid to tell even their best friends, how do we expect a groundswell of support when we are too cowardly to even admit that we happily exchange sex for money to those closest to us, much less come out and campaign for our rights.

Back to Trump, there is a saying in politics "Is this really the hill you want to die on?" and regardless of most politicians actual personal feeling on the subject, if the people partaking in an activity are too cowardly to stand up for themselves why should ANY politician throw away his career over it?

Speaking strictly for myself, I can't think of anyone close to me who doesn't know I pay for sex, and I make ZERO effort to hide that fact, except to LE of course, until a few million of the people whining about these laws join me in "coming out" NOTHING is going to be done, and anyone whining about it without standing up to be counted is just that, a WHINER.

that legalized gay marriage for the most part.

Same to an extent for civil rights via the Brown vs. Board of Ed case in the fifties, and then abortion rights in the seventies.

Yet, I hope that some pols will eventually come around to the idea that legalization of sex work would disable the traffickers by allowing those trafficked to go to the authorities for protection.

As a society, there has been a slow steady path progression towards allowing more freedoms over the last century.   Let's hope that it continues.

I am speaking of course about legalized pot and gay marriage. The "establishment" was against it for years until the tide of public opinion became overwhelming and then the likes of Obama and Hillary quickly switched sides and took credit for it like it was their idea all along.

Is it really any wonder that people DESPISE politicians?

The obvious question is, why didn't Obama legalize sex work (or advocate for it)? Or Clinton? My point is simply that this isn't a right vs left issue but rather an issue pertaining to the American public in general, and the politicians they elect. There clearly isn't any significant support for legalizing sex work and substantial opposition (on both sides of the aisle). As others have pointed out, that might change in the future, but we're not there yet. Using this particular issue to Trump-bash is a bit of a stretch, especially when there are plenty of other issues from which to choose. When you consider that the nuts-and-bolts of FOSTA-SESTA came together during Obama's two terms, it's more than fair to question why/how that happened and why his administration didn't do more to prevent it from coming to fruition.
