more like, why i CAN'T read Eddie's blog!  :-)

seriously, cuz reading tiny WHITE font on a BLACK background is VERY tiring on the eyes (perhaps more so the older you are)

so sorry Ed, but your aging-hipster's desire to have a "cool" black background may be costing you readers

[my i'm feeling so opinionated today!] LOL

thanks. while that doesn't quite work for me, i get the gist of your point (i think)

you can get a similar effect by just highlighting text with your mouse (like for copy-n-paste), which in this case renders light-blue text on striped white lines for me! :-(

btw for anyone who cares (about typography, usability and web design), what i'm talking about is a well-known problem that causes fatigue, eye strain and user-irritation, and often leads to people leaving such web pages in droves, few mins after entry (and not just older folk either):

Bloomberg has a similar god-awful scheme (orange headline text on black blackground!) which apparently they still like and are sticking to (despite numerous complaints) but they had the good sense to at least make the articles be white-on-black

At least if you're on a Mac....

Hit the Apple key and then the plus (+) key to make the type bigger. I've got to believe that there's a similar solution on the PC computers.

Thanks for the nice web authoring resources. I've attached a link to Jakob Nielsen's site. He's regarded by many to be the guru of website usability.

I love Eddie's blog, and I'm extremely grateful to him for the hard work that goes into it, but it's hard on my eyes, too.

If you're using firefox you can do the same thing. Ctrl+ to increase the size of the type (and Ctrl- to decrease).

And I just found out on a Mac you can use the pinch to do the same thing, as well as the Cmd+ keys as you mentioned.

yup, IE8 even has a zoom button built-in (lower right)

these do solve at least 1 problem (font size)
