American military history.  The last living 5-star general was Omar Bradley, who died in 1981.   There were nine 5-star general officers (some were Fleet Admirals, the Navy equivalent), all originally promoted during WW II.  None of the 5-star generals were DEI hires, they were all promoted on merit.

Mark Hertling (Ret. 37 years) was the Commanding General of United States Army Europe and the Seventh Army.  Every Saturday, there was a SECURE WORLDWIDE VIDEO TELECONFERENCE (VTC).  This was before Zoom or Snapchat was invented.  Every commander had a secure VTC.  They had a three hour meeting all over the world with officers tuning in from time zones all over the world, no matter what time it was.
