For those who saw the debate, how do people feel about McCain's statement?

It's seemed awfully disrespectful to me.

It seemed condescending at the least.  It's clear that after the election is over, these two won't be buddies.

Reading any more into it than disdain is probably just wishful thinking, IMHO.

I don't know that McCain is racist, but at the very least, he's a sore loser.

do you really think it's appropriate not to show respect for the only other candidate for President of the United States?  McCain doesn't have to like him.  He can even be his enemy, but to me, respect is mandatory.  Less than that is an insult to all of his supporters.  Does McCain really want to insult half of America?

That's an opinion.  An opinion that is obviously not shared by many many Americans.  He won his party's primary.  As his party is the largest in the country, what does a lack of respect for the man say about all of his supporters?  Just seems small minded and lousy strategy to me.  Hard to believe that's evidence of someone who "reaches across the aisle."

Oh yeah, BTW, you said "how can you respect someone who is bent on destroying the U.S."  Do you really believe that Obama's INTENT is to destroy the U.S.?

I don't think McCain is bent on destroying the US.  In fact, there's not much left to destroy after Bush's path of destruction.

His Tax Policy alone will further destroy the U.S. economy. Raising Capital Gains Tax, raising Business Tax, and social security without Caps???

I own many business and have numerous investments.  If you've been following the board, you might already know that.  I didn't tell you that I knew of Obama's intent, I asked you what you believe.  I guess you were afraid to answer and let everyone see all your crazy.  Do you not realize that there are many who disagree with you on Obama's fiscal policies?

Nonetheless, I think McCain owes Obama his respect and I KNOW he owes Obama's supporters his respect.

Nobody has asked whether YOU have to respect Obama.  The question is whether McCain should.

He did apologize to a person injured in a bombing. He considered the Pentagon bombing a success as it shut down the bombing of Vietnam for a few days, and didn't kill or injure anybody. Plus, I don't know how close Obama was to Ayers. He apparently couldn't have the guy arrested, or removed from his position.

And I don't think McCain's refusal to treat Obama with respect is anything other than a strategy.

Lastly, I don't know what you're going to do when President Obama is sworn in.

I believe that you asked Balboa7 what he believed in, but I'll tell you what I believe in (and I'm not afraid to answer). I believe that Obama is lying. He might not destroy America, but his policies will...his lies will.

When BHO ran for senate, he promised for lower taxes in Chicago. Did it ever happen? No. Instead, he voted several times for increased taxes.

McCain home from 'nam. President Nixon and his stratagem with the soldiers, marines, sailors and airman executing his orders is what brought the POWs home. I have met and spoken to many Vietnam Veterans and they all same thing.

If you disagree with this government's policies we have the Consitution of the United States which men and women such as the 54,000 plus names on the Vietnam Memorial, McCain, GOP Geezer were sworn to protect and preserve to the best of their abilities.

If I was McCain I would tell the American how I personally feel about friends of terrorists. If I lose the election, so be it.

I'm fine with paying more taxes so that the government works well for all of our citizens, not just the wealthiest few.  I would not be OK if the government stopped working for my benefit, but it should work for others also.  After all, for the most part, it doesn't matter what they do, as long as they stop me from getting bombed, I'm going to be OK.

I do have a philosophy that this republic is the result of social contract.  I believe that contract mandates that we contribute to the greater good.  To quote Spock, "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few or the one."

As for the respect issue, I respect my colleagues.  Given that Bush and Obama are both Senators, I absolutely thing they owe each other respect.
