first:
The contract for running the campaigns was originally awarded by RNC to "Washington-based Capital Communications Group" that provides consulting services to government and private clients for cultural and political networking.

then;
For cost and efficiencies gains, the company outsourced the work to HCL Technologies that in turn sent it offshore.

to;
HCL BPO Services in India

60weeks x 175people x 8hrs day x $2.95hour
$1.239mil - chump change by campaign cost standards

afterwhich;
the RNC got concerned it may turn into a political football, or as HCL sources stated, "one consideration was non-viability in the last few months after having covered most voters from the RNC database." and they pulled the plug.

After all, it is a political season...

I'd call it smart flip flop at worst...No big deal!

It is just another fuckup by a political party that will be lied about by both sides.

Are you going to think of it as "no big deal" if your job got offshored ?

The CEO of Infosys, the biggest Indian Offshore company said recently that he is going after any job performed behind a desk in the US.

At some point top level execs who make decisions will realize that some of the outsourcing decisions are not good for the country.  For the time being, we get cheaper good as a result of outsourcing but at some point there will not be enough well paying jobs to allow most people to buy those good, at that point the true cost of outsourcing will begin to sink in.
    What can be done?  One thing would be to lobby retirement funds, which are among the biggest investors on corporations.  If pressure is brought on retirement funds to use their sway to insure that outsourcing (not all outsourcing is bad) efforts carefully weigh the shortterm and longterm impact upon a company's US workforce, then incremental change in a positive direction will begin to emerge.

When you say that we receive "cheaper goods", I just don't see it. Nike has been paying their off shore employees a few dollars a day, if that, and their products are still extremely exspensive.
I think all the savings goes directly to the companies thru cheaper labor costs and no benefit spending, and is not being passed down to the consumer.
