There's no gentle way to put it: People who give in to racism and prejudice may simply be dumb, according to a new study that is bound to stir public controversy. The research finds that children with low intelligence are more likely to hold prejudiced attitudes as adults. These findings point to a vicious cycle, according to lead researcher Gordon Hodson, a psychologist at Brock University in Ontario.

Low-intelligence adults tend to gravitate toward socially conservative ideologies, the study found.

Those ideologies, in turn, stress hierarchy and resistance to change, attitudes that can contribute to prejudice, Hodson wrote in an email to LiveScience.

Can you "enlighten us" on a particular timeframe when :"common sense can also look and observe the stream of time and come to conclusions on when things were more sane and prosperous, when Americans truly were the envy of the world,and what estalishment was in control"

The "Gilded age" might have been even a better time for "the 1%" then now, but, vast segments of poulation would be FAR worse off.. Your "nostalgia" is misguided.

There is a field of psychology known as heuristics. Heuristics are mental "rules of thumb". It's what common sense is based off of. You don't put your hand on a hot stove. Why? Because common sense tells you that you'll get burned. But how do you know this?

Memories can be stored rather strangely. If you've ever had to defrag a PC, it's a bit like that. One bit of information is connection to another, and to another, and so on. In your mind, "red" may be connected to "cardinal" which in turn may be connected to "bird" and also connected to "fly". In this example red-cardinal-bird-fly is a small neural network. Someone who has such a network, wired through experience, might see a red thing flying and instantly think, without question that it's a cardinal.

There are many different kinds of heuristics, but what they do is make the processing of thoughts faster. In a hostile world without civilization, this could be the difference between life and death. A slithering thing on the ground may or may not be a snake, but reacting as if it is a snake without checking first could save you from some venom.

One such heuristic is the representativeness heuristic (yes, that's correct syntax, I guess psychologists didn't major in English when they came up with this stuff). In this case, a particular object may represent something. A "plane" would represent a "plane crash". This heuristic too is built from experience, and it makes sense that people would fear flying since they never see planes on the news unlikes it involves them crashing.

The same applies to racism and prejudice. If through upbringing and experience that a white person grows to hate or distrust or fear someone of another race, then those emotions will be triggered without pausing to process why those emotions are occuring.

Intellectually lazy people (you could call them willfully stupid) may not put the effort into correcting their own thought patterns when a heuristic fires incorrectly. And it has been demonstrated that rural conservatives can be quite the dumbshits.

As John Stewart Mill once said: "A conservative may not necessarily be stupid, but most stupid people are conservative." They're also racist and religious too, which says more about them than it does for those they hate.

There is no way to measure intelligence. Not even IQ scores or SAT scores can measure intelligence.

Just to give you an idea of how little educational attainment matters in overall intelligence, I have a high school diploma. Never took any college courses. I have a friend who was a high school drop out. I have another friend who majored in economics at Harvard. All of us often have debates on the subject of economics, and I gotta tell ya, the Harvard grad often loses these debates.

Studies of that sort are simply the machinations of the current ruling elite, there is no honest or non-bias research at work there, just verbal diarrhea to further their programs.

For many years they have been sending out trial ballons trying to gauge the publics acceptance of the idea that those labeled "racist" being afflicted with some kind of mental disorder. Not sure what the leftists are afraid of, I don't think the public would do anything to oppose locking those they consider racist in mental asylums, its not like they dont tolerate everything else.

Funny discrimination used to be a good word in this society, a person of discriminating taste was a refined citizen. Under another establishment homosexuality was seen as a mental disorder. There also used to be a genral acceptance that there were genuine differences between different races of man, the scientific community as well as the public. There are a number of other "norms" that exist today that were considered abhorrent only a few years ago and vice versa.

Again it all depends who has control over a society.

Then again, common sense isn't very common.

Race

While the educational attainment of all races increased during the 1990s, with the gap between African Americans and non-Hispanic whites decreasing, severe differences between the races remain, especially among those with a bachelor's degree or higher. Asian Americans had the highest educational attainment of any race, followed by whites who had a higher percentage of high school graduates but a lower percentage of college graduates. Persons identifying as Hispanic or Latino, without regard to race, had the lowest educational attainment. The gap was the largest between foreign-born Asian Americans, over half (50.1%) of whom had a bachelor's degree or higher and foreign-born Hispanics, 9.8% of whom had a four-year college degree. Don't even try to discuss how racially aware the growing hispanic population is either, no one cares that the only group in this country that doesn't have any kind of racial interest groups (outside of the idiot ku kluxers and other assorted costume wearers), again whitey, is the one group that gets accused of evil solidarity the most. The article is basically just trying to push an ideology that is already established, anyone who is called racist is dumb and should be ignored and ostracized from society. How is this interesting? The only thing I find interesting is that the promoters of political correctness and egalitarianism are so insecure with the holes that exist in their ideology that they constantly have to present "studies" to try to further sell their story to the public.

The current establishment, their whole existance is built on lies, a house of cards, and it depends on fantasy for its continued existance. Would you suggest it would be proper to start forcing people to submit to drugs being administered to them or psychiatric care for this supposed ailment of prejudice?? Most probably would have no problem with it, after all child molesters often get more of a tolerance for their behavior (abused as a child etc) than those labeled as racist. Like I said, I don't know what is holding the current establishment back - the Trotskyites were much more balsy.

I can tell you that in times past, before America even, that people were more free under monarchies and other forms of government than they are under modern Western democracy, but alas the slaves of today don't even know they are slaves - the slave of yesteryear knew he was a slave, but he had his free time outside his daily routine, today's slave has not the luxury of loitering carefree for half an hour, even his entertainment is often as dreary as his work.

You also fail to notice that for the most part, the average Republican voter has a higher income than a liberal voter. I don't see how someone with a lower IQ manages to earn more money. It generally does not work that way with the exception of some athletes and MANY in Hollywood.
