Studies of that sort are simply the machinations of the current ruling elite, there is no honest or non-bias research at work there, just verbal diarrhea to further their programs.

For many years they have been sending out trial ballons trying to gauge the publics acceptance of the idea that those labeled "racist" being afflicted with some kind of mental disorder. Not sure what the leftists are afraid of, I don't think the public would do anything to oppose locking those they consider racist in mental asylums, its not like they dont tolerate everything else.

Funny discrimination used to be a good word in this society, a person of discriminating taste was a refined citizen. Under another establishment homosexuality was seen as a mental disorder. There also used to be a genral acceptance that there were genuine differences between different races of man, the scientific community as well as the public. There are a number of other "norms" that exist today that were considered abhorrent only a few years ago and vice versa.

Again it all depends who has control over a society.

Those with common sense can also look and observe the stream of time and come to conclusions on when things were more sane and prosperous, when Americans truly were the envy of the world,and what estalishment was in control and what estabnlishment's control has lead to the current state of affairs.

Then again, common sense isn't very common.

Race

While the educational attainment of all races increased during the 1990s, with the gap between African Americans and non-Hispanic whites decreasing, severe differences between the races remain, especially among those with a bachelor's degree or higher. Asian Americans had the highest educational attainment of any race, followed by whites who had a higher percentage of high school graduates but a lower percentage of college graduates. Persons identifying as Hispanic or Latino, without regard to race, had the lowest educational attainment. The gap was the largest between foreign-born Asian Americans, over half (50.1%) of whom had a bachelor's degree or higher and foreign-born Hispanics, 9.8% of whom had a four-year college degree. Hispanics and Latinos also trailed far behind in terms of graduating from high school; it was the only major group for which high school graduates constituted less than 80% of the population. This large inequality might partially be explained thorough the influx of uneducated foreign-born Hispanic Americans who had not been offered the chance to complete secondary education in their home country and who had not completed secondary education in the United States. Overall nearly half (49.8%) of Asian Americans, nearly a third (30%) of non-Hispanic Whites, 17.3% of non-Hispanic Blacks, and just over a tenth (11.4%) of Hispanics or Latinos had a four-year college degree. The same differences decrease significantly at the high school level with 89.4% of non-Hispanic whites, 87.6% of Asian Americans, 80.0% of African Americans, and only 57% of Hispanics or Latinos having graduated from high school.[1]

There is a field of psychology known as heuristics. Heuristics are mental "rules of thumb". It's what common sense is based off of. You don't put your hand on a hot stove. Why? Because common sense tells you that you'll get burned. But how do you know this?

Memories can be stored rather strangely. If you've ever had to defrag a PC, it's a bit like that. One bit of information is connection to another, and to another, and so on. In your mind, "red" may be connected to "cardinal" which in turn may be connected to "bird" and also connected to "fly". In this example red-cardinal-bird-fly is a small neural network. Someone who has such a network, wired through experience, might see a red thing flying and instantly think, without question that it's a cardinal.

There are many different kinds of heuristics, but what they do is make the processing of thoughts faster. In a hostile world without civilization, this could be the difference between life and death. A slithering thing on the ground may or may not be a snake, but reacting as if it is a snake without checking first could save you from some venom.

One such heuristic is the representativeness heuristic (yes, that's correct syntax, I guess psychologists didn't major in English when they came up with this stuff). In this case, a particular object may represent something. A "plane" would represent a "plane crash". This heuristic too is built from experience, and it makes sense that people would fear flying since they never see planes on the news unlikes it involves them crashing.

The same applies to racism and prejudice. If through upbringing and experience that a white person grows to hate or distrust or fear someone of another race, then those emotions will be triggered without pausing to process why those emotions are occuring.

Intellectually lazy people (you could call them willfully stupid) may not put the effort into correcting their own thought patterns when a heuristic fires incorrectly. And it has been demonstrated that rural conservatives can be quite the dumbshits.

As John Stewart Mill once said: "A conservative may not necessarily be stupid, but most stupid people are conservative." They're also racist and religious too, which says more about them than it does for those they hate.
