"Innocent until proven guilty"?

I came across the following article about the bust of Miami Companions in Detroit.  Apparently the police have a list of 30,000 clients and their personal info.  No one is sure if this info is going to be made public or not.  This got me wondering why someone would give out this kind of info.

I certainly understand that providers are in a difficult position meeting someone they don't know and really have no way of knowing anything about.  I have always been willing to give references and have felt if the providers knew of each other there was a level of trust there.  I have never and will never give my full name or place of work to anyone in this business.  There have too many examples of services and individual providers having their records siezed in an arrest.  I have certainly missed out on some great experiences but the risk just isn't worth the reward.

Tell me what you think.

Well do they really think that ALL 30,000 names ACTUALLY had appointments - and kept them?   I mean, what if someone stumbled on EROS, Cityvibe, Backpage, TER, etc.  ...like I did years ago when I just 'googled' "Escorts" one day when I was bored.  What if someone was just "CURIOUS" as to how all this worked - this 'underground society'...  And, in the comfort and security of their own home went through the process 'just to see' what it is all about and how it works.  they went through all the steps but never actually followed through on an appointment.

Initially, as a lurker, that's what I did YEARS ago.  Went through a sreening here or there, but maybe got cold feet and backed out.  Eventually over a period of time I got more comfortable, a little more savy by reading the boards, and have had appointments (and I have reviews here to).  In the years I have been hobbying, there have been times when I got screened and cleared, but in the end schedules changed abruptly, or car broke down or any NUMBER of reasons why an appointment wasn't kept.  For example: I went through the screening process with DreamEscorts in Chambersburg because I had to go to Gettysburg on business for 3 days.  I had scheduled for Penelope on my second night.  However, business plans changed, meetings ended early the second day and I had to head home early and couldn't keep the appointment.  Of course I had to cancel my appointment - I couldn't tell my wife I needed to stay the night anyway just so I could see Penelope !LOL!!   So, I'm guessing my screening info is (or at least was) in their data base evn though I've never erver used them.   Just because my (or anyone's) screeining info is in their data base doesn't necessarily mean a completed appt - UNLESS of course, the data base includes info on only completed appts.  Then, everything I'm saying goes out the window.  But, if screening info is kept for a period of time, for the possibility that you might reschedule at a later date...  well, someone who was just curious could be 'wronged' by putting their name out there when they didn't even see an escort - and for curious Georg's maybe never had any intentions to see an escort?!?

so, can they release the names and be sure they are not hurting someone who never used the service?  Well, yeah I guess - they can do wahtever they want I guess.  But I'm also guessing they have to think twice about releasing that many names when their might be some on there that can legitimately claim, swear on the bible, take a lie detector test, etc that "I NEVER used that agency"

...just as a side note.  I was screened by MC once quite some time ago for an appointment in Center City with Marina that I ultimately couldn't keep due to a last minute schedule change.  AND, that was the only time, AAND I actually NEVER have used them...so....I can legitimately claim I've never used them - So, can I then sue for wrongful deformation of character?!?!?

...I don't know...

Anybody else want to chime in?

I'm sure if the police release the info they don't care who it hurts.  From their perspective it's the truth so it wouldn't matter if you were window shopping or not.

I was hoping some providers would comment on the compromise in protecting themselves and hobbiests needing to protect themselves.

"Deformation of character", yeah, we're all guilty.

Yeah right. If LE thinks you've done something, that's good enough to bring you down. Get arrested? You don't have to go to court to get your ass handed to you: many places plaster your mugshot all over television and newspapers. There are a few papers around here dedicated to showing photo after photo of the people who were arrested in the previous week, and it lists why they were arrested. As far as I'm concerned, that's nearly as bad as having to go to court itself.
