Touring Professionally?

Is it fair to guess that you are asking about touring for business (or business and pleasure)?

If you're new and nervous, the initial advice is to stay close to home or close to friends. Flying off to NYC (from CA) might be nice, but if things ("money") don't go as planned, and you're stranded, you're 3000 miles from your support group.

For a first trip, look for something within several hours driving distance. Google Maps your location and then see what's within a few hours of driving. SoCal might mean Las Vegas. NoCal might mean Seattle or Denver.

Once you've narrowed things down, check out the local board for a while and ask about local conditions. You might have trouble finding a cheap hotel room during some major convention or sports event ... but you might find plenty of party people! Graduation season ... dads are busy with their sons and daughters.

Hey everyone- I am from California and I'm not exactly sure if this is the place to ask but any suggestions of nice places to travel? I want to travel more just nervous about new places and all of that. Would love to hear any advice and opinions!

Thank you! Yes it will be for business but of course pleasure mixed in as well I took a risk and had a great time in DC twice but I'd like to go to other places that will be fun and Where I'll meet good people as well.

One suggestion I might make

Why don't you try making posts on the various regional boards to get an idea of what kind of reception you might get. it's also a good way to find out the best (and worst) places to stay, eat, advertise etc.

Also remember that except when starting a thread it is permissible to link your website to any posts you make on TER and if you have any or when you get any reviews it is always permissible to link them to any post you make on any of the various boards here.

Do you have reviews?

I'm to lazy to search, but I would caution you without reviews it might be a challenge to attract clients. Even if you reviews are on another review board, having reviews will make it easier to attract clients while touring

Go wherever you feel is best.

Every time I plan a trip, I use TER as a guide: Where are the most reviews being written?

I just click "New Reviews" Pick "United States" Then leave the actual state blank. NoVa/DC seem to be hot spots right now, But New Jersey- surprisingly is starting to pick up the slack.

Usually, I try to book ahead of time for any and all trips. Pick a place, Pick a date, and start pre-booking.

Why don't you post in a few area and see where you get the best response. After you have booked a few clients then see where you have booked the most and go.

I'll agree with the first part: post to some local boards and see what kind of board response or even email / PM response it generates. E.g., "I looked at your website. If you visit this city I would definitely want to meet you!" versus "Your rates are higher than the local ladies. Not for me." versus "I'd love to see you but the State Championships are that week and there's no way I"m missing that."

If she just starts booking clients in different places and then has to cancel all but one destination, that could be bad for her reputation and take the meaning of "double booking" to a new level.

Also, from the boards, I gather than canceled appointments are a big problem for touring indies. They think they have pre-booked their minimum to break even only to arrive and be back at square one. I will GUESS that some locations are better or worse than others. Making up some numbers:
Boston: pre-book minimum + 1, just in case
Detroit: pre-book min + 2, just in case
Cancelville: pre-book min + 10, just in case
Phoenix: they're so happy, just show up with no pre-bookings!
(Made up examples! I don't know where cancellations are the worst.)
Even cancellations within a location might vary by Provider and the "exact" competition
