Although I think the site is easier to navigate and will be easier to read after I get more accustomed to it, I have some specific problems:

1. The contrast is not sufficient so that it is very hard to read compared to the old site.

2 The print seems to be smaller.   Perhaps that is just a problem with my 60+ year old eyes, but I certainly didn't have any problem before

3. It is difficult to read posts because there is insufficient demarcation of where the post begins and ends.

Only one issue , I'm still being moderated and for the life of me I dont know why.

You're not really helping your case by posting off-topic.

I searched the board for your username back 365 days. You've only been posting here for a week.

on the new site puts undue strain on them.  I've been forced to constantly go back to the "classic" site if I'm reading reviews or the discussion boards for more than about 5 minutes.

My only other complaint is about this message site that I'm on right now.  It's too small.  One has to do a lot of scrolling to read the message before posting if it's longer than a sentence or two.

But it's the small font that is the major problem to me.  It's really causing me a problem.

ctrl up arrow key ? or some very simple shortcut  i can't tell you exactly what it is because i have a mac.  but, try looking under view or preferences on your menu bar.  you can control the size of your text on your own and if you hate the colors you can override the colors also under preferences.

The same thing happened to me once and I know that I didn't moderate myself.

I think those adjustments would be applied to all sites that you visit. Then the fonts on other sites may appear too big.

I mainly have an issue with the scolling I have to do to see all of the text on the message boards. The menus on the left side should be across the top, that would even out the board. And maybe a darker color font would make the text easier to read.

So, you can't tell which posts you read.  Also, you can't tell which reviews you've read.  Or maybe it's just me.

As raised by many in this community, a major problem with the "new Coke" site is the the necessity for horizontal scrolling to see all the text. On the old site, you can make the column whatever width you want, yet still read the entire text without horizontal scrolling. The text retains the same font size, and just reformats (left justified). If your eyesight is not the best, you can just make it a more narrow width.

This comes from Typesetting 101 (see below website):

Blocks of text should not be too long or too wide.

When paragraphs get long, they're harder to read because there's less whitespace. Whitespace gives paragraphs shape, which acts like visual bearings, making it easier to find your place, and to find the start of the next line. Using more, smaller paragraphs suits web content particularly, becuase it lets you subtly highlight more useful phrases, by putting them in their own paragraph, or starting a new paragraph.

For similar reasons, long lines (wide paragraphs) are slower and harder to read than narrower ones. Lines of around 100 characters present neat bite-size chunks of text that can easily be decoded, and also make it really easy to scan round to the start of the next line. That's why newspapers and magazines use several columns on a page, and why books use the same common format...."  

As far as a I can tell, this is done almost automatically on the old "classic coke" site, but it not possible on the "new coke" site.

This is an example of two-steps forward, one-step back. Since this was allowed on the original site, and indeed uses principles that go back to Herr Guttenberg, I am needless to say disappointed in Staff.

By the way, this problem could be fixed, and I would still use only the old site format.

I am sure this has been said already but I will say it for myself...

The font really is too small, and the light blue text is being drowned out with the white background.

I think the blue text should either be changed, or made bolder. And the text size has to be increased at least by 2 or 3 points.

The site in general looks very "2005" but reading it is a pain in the...eyes..

so it's easy enough to adjust for each place you visit. copied and pasted from another site....

for microsoft internet explorer go to VIEW under the menu, then the subheading TEXT SIZE and go to larger or largest.

it's happening to me  all the time now.

The font remains too small for the body of the post I'm looking at, as well as all other headlines.  I've mentioned this on other posts, and so have others.

for me.  override the preferences or keep increasing the font until they all increase.

look at the sidebar in grey/green for an example.  but, white backgrounds generally make things harder to read.  if this board was given a gray background it would probably become easier on the eyes.

Thirsty -  I have no idea how to access the VIP information....how to change information or monitor how many days I have left as VIP.  This new board is really a negative move by ER.

Santino and hounddog stole my thunder, but there's also the issue of speed.

Or a green backgound for that matter.  And blue on grey is not a good color combo for reading.

I ALWAYS have my font size on LARGEST.  It doesn't do what you think it does!

It may work for you, but if you've been reading all these posts on the subject, it doesn't work for many others.

I used to use "View All" to see long threads. Now, View All doesn't work on long threads. The hour glass appears and nothing happens.

However, I have to say that it is a welcome improvement to not have the top ads in a frame. It means I can read the site from work -- I can scroll down a page without worrying that someone will walk in and notice the topless girl on my screen. Before, you couldn't scroll away that top ad.

I switched to Firefox specifically because it makes it much easier to read the many websites that have type as small as TER now has. You use hit Ctrl-+ to make it bigger (2 or 3 times) and Ctrl-- to make it small again.

I realize that it may seem like a lot of trouble to switch browsers just because this site re-designed, but if you have trouble reading the text here, you will probably have trouble with a lot of sites that use small fonts.

And with Firefox, all of the text -- headlines and the message -- get larger or smaller with Ctrl-+

Excepting the graphics -- which are the buttons at the bottom. But once you squint and figure out what they say, you don't need them bigger.

Agreed.  We hobbyists do not have time to spend the whole day checking reviews.  The usefulness of this site is for us to be able to quickly check reviews....make assessments, and then act on our judgement.  To have to wait endless seconds between changes in the screen, or review searches is a huge NEGATIVE and makes me want to forget about ER, if I had a viable alternative !

But not really on Microsoft Internet Explorer (for Windows) as the font size increase is tiny.  If you have Firefox, Opera or Mozilla browsers the text zooming is significant.

Firefox and Mozilla browsers are free.

I got that a few times even before the new site went online. For some reason, I assumed it was an AOL problem. I will pass it on to Staff.

yes, color and contrast of text definitely a big problem. distinguishing separation of sections in review also difficult.

existing problems/suggestions: 1) site much too slow these last couple of months. i don't know what was done to make it that way, but it was something, for sure, and it's not just me or my computer, or my access.
2) 'exclude bad websites' during search facility....leave it blank and let us decide whether or not it should be part of the search criteria. it's very bothersome having to continuously exclude it.
3) hitting the 'back' function while inside a discussion thread often brings me back to the 'top' of the discussion items, instead of the section of the page where I entered the item. very, very annoying.

Yes...it takes forever to go through the message queues...I had to give up last night. Other issues such as 3 pages of messages to approve and not able to get to page 3. Staff is aware.
