Hi all! I will be in NYC in a few weeks,,,,does anyone have any suggestions for hotel Accommodations and/or
part of town to stay in? I assume downtown Manhattan is not good due to traffic, etc.
Thanks so much for any help you can provide!

And (per Wikipedia):

The core of Midtown Manhattan is from about 31st Street to 59th Street between Third and Ninth avenues, about two square miles (this is the area most commonly referred to as "Midtown.")

It doesn't start at 42nd. LOL, but the closer to Times Square the better (proximity to my office). It's fine trekking to Midtown East, but to me, Midtown West gives me more of an incentive to hobby. I've seen plenty in the MSG Area of Midtown West...

:)  Happy Hobbying all!!  :)

Thank you everyone for all of the much needed help!
I am obviously not familiar with NYC, and maybe I should have
Specified that a PM would be more appropriate for hotel names.
Mostly, I wanted to do a search online for hotels in a specific area,
Which you all have so kindly helped with. If anyone would like to PM
me with additional hotel names I would greatly appreciate it. And please,
Don't hesitate to ask me for info regarding "lodging" in
My home state. Thanks again ya'all!
Love, Brooklyn J.

Both should be crossed off your list, as they are obviously compromised.  While I would recommend midtown, where there are dozens of excellent hotels to choose from, I would do research to determine which places fit the bill in terms of amenities and pricing during the dates you are planning to visit.   Use the national travel sites to do that, and ask other providers that you know who either visit or live here for recommendations.  Midtown is the best location for both yourself and your clients...the latter can get there easily, and you have access to many nearby quality restaurants, shopping, and transit to other places in the City that you might wish to visit or explore.

True story

I'm swapping emails and making plans to meet a gal in NYC and as the details emerge, it turns out we are both staying at the same hotel.

Maybe a better subject line would have been "My place or yours?"

I posted this once before when it came up:

I used to have a hotel chain based in New York as a client. They're very upscale. I was touring properties one day and the subject came up about different types of clients and their needs. I asked, naively, whether business clients tended to travel with their wives on trips to the city. A sly smile came over the hotel executive's face. She answered, "We don't ask."

If you think for a moment that hotel operators in the city aren't aware of the hobby or that their properties are being used for hobbying, you're being ridiculous. Of course they know. They also know that they profit handsomely from it. And most quietly look the other way.

So, if someone mentions the name of a hotel on a thread like this, it isn't "compromised." The only one you're fooling is yourself if you truly believe that.

I don't use them, but I know someone on another board who uses this discount hotel booking service when setting up outcall appointments in the city (he's married, so he can't invite providers to his home). It's called quickbook dot com. They have deals with tons of New York properties, and from time to time even some of the boutique hotels turn up on their list.

east side (Mad, Park, Lex, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, & York aves) tend to be more convienent to many hobbists. I've always found midtown on the West side to be more problematic (tunnel traffic/Times Sq/Tourist).

Monk,
Thanks so much for the post! I was talking to a friend about this the other day, after the bad reaction I received for this board post. I guess I always assumed that these hotels know what goes on, but never know for sure. It's common sense, and you are probably correct when stating that they just look the other way.
So, again, thanks!
