Hi all! I will be in NYC in a few weeks,,,,does anyone have any suggestions for hotel Accommodations and/or part of town to stay in? I assume downtown Manhattan is not good due to traffic, etc. Thanks so much for any help you can provide! Love, Brooke in AZ

Both should be crossed off your list, as they are obviously compromised. While I would recommend midtown, where there are dozens of excellent hotels to choose from, I would do research to determine which places fit the bill in terms of amenities and pricing during the dates you are planning to visit. Use the national travel sites to do that, and ask other providers that you know who either visit or live here for recommendations. Midtown is the best location for both yourself and your clients...the latter can get there easily, and you have access to many nearby quality restaurants, shopping, and transit to other places in the City that you might wish to visit or explore.
I used to have a hotel chain based in New York as a client. They're very upscale. I was touring properties one day and the subject came up about different types of clients and their needs. I asked, naively, whether business clients tended to travel with their wives on trips to the city. A sly smile came over the hotel executive's face. She answered, "We don't ask."
If you think for a moment that hotel operators in the city aren't aware of the hobby or that their properties are being used for hobbying, you're being ridiculous. Of course they know. They also know that they profit handsomely from it. And most quietly look the other way.
So, if someone mentions the name of a hotel on a thread like this, it isn't "compromised." The only one you're fooling is yourself if you truly believe that.
I don't use them, but I know someone on another board who uses this discount hotel booking service when setting up outcall appointments in the city (he's married, so he can't invite providers to his home). It's called quickbook dot com. They have deals with tons of New York properties, and from time to time even some of the boutique hotels turn up on their list.
east side (Mad, Park, Lex, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, & York aves) tend to be more convienent to many hobbists. I've always found midtown on the West side to be more problematic (tunnel traffic/Times Sq/Tourist).
