There are millions or reasons to join the hobby. I have been watching the boards for a couple years and have noticed two that stick out rather indirectly. Catharsis, which is a release or a renewal of self. This is rather selfish reason but really useful since many encounters are short and getting the most bang for your buck. Therapeutic, which is a treatment or healing of something. I see this as being less selfish and likely involves spilling something to the hobbyist or provider. To get something and/or to give something.

Each of these seem to be at the core of most of the million reasons to join the hobby. Whether it is for the money, attention, to get your rocks off, or to fulfill fantasies, each of these has an underlying the reason to join. Not every person out there can handle becoming a provider or a hobbyist.  The hobby is built on secrets and disclosure, which helps build the community at large. But almost all of us are here under our own power, so there has to be a reason.

These are just things that I have noticed. Take it or leave it.

The greatest conflicts, both internally with one's self, and within the community, occur when the two collide

....they tend to bring out thoughts of the obvious.  Well thought out and nicely said, but, obvious.   :)

There are multiple reasons someone single does this.  More reasons than most think of why married men do this (which is the category I fall into).  I don't believe I can narrow them down to only a few or care to judge why.  Let alone, why a provider may do what they do.  I'm just very thankful they do.

Thank you Victoria.  Thank you Trinity.  Thank you Cora.  Thank you Elan.  Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.  For no other reason than....You'll just have to find your own reason to thank them, now, won't you.  :)

You pay $300 bucks for a catharsis? I know where you can get an epiphany for free. BTW read the definitive explanation of tragedy  in Aristotle's "poetics" and it doesn't mention release, self renewal or payin for it. And yes I did take philosophy 101 in college and I hated it.

doing what we are doing it's me. (My reasons are not for the rest of the world), and if I can validate seeing a provider because of a certain situation, then so be it.  But, when it comes down to it, I enjoy being with these beautiful women.  Therapeutic? Call it what you will.  Narcissistic? Catharsis?....most certainly.  More selfish, less selfish... still selfish.

There has to be a payoff or we as humans simply won't do it. The payoff may be as simple as laying to rest at night feeling good that we accomplished something but it still qualifies as a reward that nurtures a need or desire. There is nothing wrong with that BTW.

Awesome post Doc. Thank you!

I have never taken a philosophy course. I am more of a Freud man. I used more of his definition in this case. Your answer gave me what I was looking for. I wanted a different stance and well you were loud and somewhat clear.
Thank You

I've met a few gals now and love it!

For me it's like buying a front row seat for some 1-on-1 time with a Rock Star! All I want to do it escape reality for a while and go home happy as a clam and smelling like a fish ;) Especially on my moustache.

Most of the time it is not that I feel the need for either one but I would simply want to revel in the charms and company of a woman whose charms and company I like.
