How Do We Change Things ?

Great couple of Vids (Oliver & Stossel). Now, how do we change the current climate?

Our criminalization-of-everything only makes it easier for traffickers. It's much more difficult for them to ply their trade in countries with legal consenting adult prostitution. It's easier here because the entire industry is underground - they can stay hidden and don't have any fears of clients or others reporting them to LE.

And more difficult for LE to find out about and investigate REAL human trafficking. People in legal countries like The Netherlands are not afraid to talk to LE about what they know because they don't have to fear their own arrest or mistreatment - and they'll be treated somewhat respectfully. LE can more easily question other providers, organizers (legal pimps) and clients because the only one's who have any fear of talking to LE are those doing something illegal.

And then there's the wasted resources... Somewhere I thought I'd read that less than 1% of 'human trafficking' operations/stings actually involved ANY human trafficking. The rest are simply wasted resources of LE watching guys getting hand jobs and busting those involved.

I think this will be difficult…

… as long as a large percentage of Americans think that sex outside of marriage is wrong, i.e. a sin against God. Legislators will pander to that electorate, to get elected if not because of their own beliefs.

Did you know that 18 states, including Minnesota, have Adultery laws that make sexual acts illegal if at least one of the parties is married to someone else: Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Then there’s the six states with Fornication laws, which effectively make ALL forms of sex outside marriage illegal : Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, Mississippi, South Carolina and Utah.

We’re not even talking about P4P there! Sure, it’s been a long time since these laws were enforced, and several states are working on striking them in the light of Lawrence v. Texas, but the fact they exist at all tells you something about where we are as a country on acceptance of sex between all consenting adults, especially when money is involved.

Progress will be very slow and very much of the three steps forward and two steps back variety. People's religious beliefs aside, the worst thing now is the success of the movement to equate P4P (or at least most forms) with trafficking. Until that idea is defeated, I think little will change.

The biggest opposition to rational laws doesn't seem to be coming from religious folks but from feminists and supporters (which is a larger group since it's not woke to not support them).
