To be honest I thought 16 was the age of consent but that's neither here or there.
I'm in total agreement for the protection of young women and the age of consent thing.  
But it seems pretty sad that an 18 year old boy could be prosecuted for consensual sex with his 17 year old girlfriend but yet a TV station & LE can ruin a 17 years old girls life for what appears to be an unforgivable sin by publicizing her name and picture.

You may have a point, but it's prostitution and not statutory rape.

In NC the age of consent for consensual sex is 16, if there is no money involved.  If you pay a 16 or 17 year old for sex, it is not just prostitution, but it is a felony.

Publishing names and pics of a girl that young is inexcusable.  
Pretty much gave her a life sentence for a minor crime.

That had been arrested and her name/pic/mugshot/info posted all over the news in her town.

What's worse is NC charges 16 and 17 YO's as adults and that really sucks to be a teen and have that shit follow you for the rest of your life.

Leaving them vulnerable to stalkers, "pimps" or worse... who was "served and protected" here?...

The really screwed up part is that the 17 year old has her life ruined and every one that saw her CAN be charged with sex offenses that if convicted will haunt them for life too. How can the same person be both an adult charged with prostitution and a child victim or prostitution? If she is considered a child in the cases involving her real of potential customers her lawyer should move for dismissal with prejudice based on a minors name being released to the media. LE and the media know better, they just do not care. Ratings drive everything, not facts.
