Hello,

So I'm hearing that there is a huge tropical storm in Miami now. I was thinking of coming to DC for a night or two just not sure how far it is and exactly how easy it is to get around from place to place.

If the trip is to much of a hassle I'd rather not risk it!!!

Thanks in advance

DC has the most speed traffic cameras in any city. They even had red light cameras. These fines are much higher than in most cities. It's $150 if the speed limit is over 10 MPH I think and $300 if its over 20 MPH. They even have temporary speed cameras in school zones that average $40 a ticket. I remember one month, I spent 2K just on speeding tickets alone. It was a wake up call.

Anyhow, the traffic in DC is always congested. It takes about 10 minutes just to get from one block to another. I am unsure if the tropical storm will make any difference to the traffic congestion. We still have plenty of providers that advertise in DC. Sometimes you have to make a little sacrifice to get what you want. Best of luck!

Its either late, broken down, under construction, escalators broken, teenagers robbing you, wackos wandering around in the stations, and it's expensive. Plus it doesn't go to Georgetown. I hate driving in DC but I hate the Metro more!

if you are driving in a comfy car and listening to something good. i love driving around here. i literally try to break as many laws as i can in one trip. but all kidding aside, its not that bad. these days the after hours construction on the beltway in tysons/fairfax area and in moco maryland might put a damper on things, but like all things they pass with time. if you really wanna stay in the know with traffic around wdc, listen in on 103.5 (it might get confusing if you don't know your way around) if not use your googlemaps with traffic view... itll show you where things are congested.
come on now.. we live in one of the best cities in the country with some of the best technology out there available to us. use it!

ms mocha... You totally made my day.  I wonder if julia could oull that look off.  Its funny cuz ive totally seen women do that on the subway.  I think if you ladies stay on the west side you ll be fine.  One thing really great abiut our area is if u do like the nice drives and enjoy different scenary we have lots to offer.  Clara b and gw pkwy into g town is nice or the occasional sprint on 495.  Old town ellicott is nice ind but a certain train derailment has closed that off... Can u tell what i do in my free time?

I agree with Julia and would suggest you fly into Reagan (DCA) and metro.  If you pick a nice area to stay in and aren't looking to ride at 3 AM (they aren't open past 1 AM many nights) you should have absolutely no issues.

I don't live in DC but spend 100-120 days a year there and put lots of time & money into metro travel.  Yes, it's expensive, but it's DC.  Parking overight at a nice (but not top end) hotel can cost you $30-40 a day easy.

Depending upon what you are looking to do you can easily spend a few days dining, shopping, sight seeing and working while getting around on foot.

As to Georgetown, correct the metro doesn't go there--officially--but the Foggy Bottom stop is an easy few block walk along M-Street.  Nice restaurants, but a couple dollar "tourist trap bump" on their prices.
