Is 5-8 really considered petite? Nothing wrong with 5-8 but for me it is more tall (and maybe lanky).

I suspect that to most, rightly or wrongly, petite calls up visions of thinness, not height.

And if I were 6'6", which I am not, 5'8" would be petite.

Either way I suspect you got the intended meaning of the term, so why make an issue of it?  I am not sure.

If a woman is 5'8" then by classic definition she is NOT petite. Petite is defined by the garment industry as a size for short and slender women.

Phrases that might have a common meaning somewhere else ----or even that had a particular meaning here a year or two ago take on new meanings.

MILF now means a 25 year old.  Curvy applies to women who might be a bit larger than average, petite extends to 5 foot 8.

I'd call a 5'8" woman who wears a 0 dress size "anorexic", sizes 2-4 "petite". JMHO

So I can go on a dating website (match.com) and say I am independently wealthy and not be lying, as long as I think I am, and you are comparing my wealth to a villager in Kenya?
