The Prince George's County Council is considering legislation that would create "prostitution-free zones" in the county, an effort police say could help eradicate prostitution from the county entirely.
Councilwoman (some name), introduced the bill, which would create areas similar in effect to drug-free zones near schools and playgrounds, she said.

For the residents of Fairmount Heights, near Eastern Avenue and the D.C. border, that could mean no more used condoms lying on sidewalks or in church parking lots and no more would-be clients prowling the area for sex.

The stretch of Eastern Avenue, which splits Maryland and the District, has been a hotbed of prostitution for years, according to neighbors and residents.

After picking up prostitutes along Eastern Avenue, customers would drive into Fairmount Heights to find alleys or vacant parking lots to perform their sex acts, according to  (some name), Fairmount Heights resident and founder of Citizens Against Prostitution.

Watching a half-naked prostitute running through the street in the morning had become all too common, she said.

"Last year, it was so bad that while our children were standing at the bus stop in the morning, they were witnessing the prostitutes up on Eastern Avenue and seeing the used condoms and syringes," (some name) said. "Prostitution in this area is 24 hours a day."

Maj.  (some name), commander at xxxxx Station, said police responded to complaints from Fairmount Heights residents earlier this year, and have since stepped up enforcement to catch prostitutes and their clients, known as johns, in the act.

"When we went out and started assessing the situation, we realized that there was heavy prostitution involving females and transgender males,"  (some name) said.

If caught congregating in a prostitution-free zone with the intent of engaging in a sexual act, prostitutes or their johns can be charged with misdemeanor offense, according to the legislation.

Violators would face a $1,000 fine and up to a six-month sentence.

The only planned zone so far is along Eastern Avenue, but  (some name) said police are prepared to follow the crime as necessary, and will rely on residents to let them know where prostitution crops up in other areas of the county.

"The intent of this bill is not to move them, but to eradicate it as much as possible," (some name) said. "The police will be very diligent in watching the trends so that they don't move farther down Eastern Avenue, or down to Southern Avenue or elsewhere in the county."

From reading the article there are complaints about condoms on the ground. A bunch of providers that I have seen this year and last year were busted in PG during there internet crackdown. Very careless with their screening. Many will never come back to pg county as a result.

I take my wrappers and used condoms and put them in ziplock bag. I go to to a public place restroom and dispose.

Please don't screw up the sewer system with used condoms.

They are only working on instituting this in the area mentioned and trying to create a law that covers the intent to engage not the act which is already covered.

Dc posted signs that this was a prostitution free zone. I kick myself every day that I didn't steal one of thoise signs.

And -- did that mean that if there weren't those signs, that prositution was OK in that area? LOL

I have said this as long as the days near and will continue to. Street walkers are long on guts and short on brains haven't these ladies learned that the safest place for them is in a brothel. Street walkers and brothel girls have a quota so for one of them to have sex with 5-11 guys is no major problem. The average street walker works for a pimp who imposes that she earn 100-400 a day. Brothels tend to take a cut out for condoms,lube,sex toys,gloves,mouth wash,monthly pap & blood testing by law. Those rooms aren't cheap neither so the girl must charge anywhere from 200-5,000 per party. The benefit of a brothel is security(panic button) where as a street walker is taking her life into her hands!! Now yes there could be a weirdo out there seeking to harm high=end girls that's why you screen. If something is way off then its best to not set an appointment. I read up about serial killers 500 especially in the USA and they are very cunny. They consider working girls as fresh prey though they share certain traits..just be careful.
