Buy a gift certificate for the exact amount and pay cash - - make a reservation - - for a nice dinner there with your wife and use gift certificate you gave her for Valentine's day.  Why not take her there that day - you had to work but wanted her to know you were thinking about her.  

Also come up with some BS reason that shows you were thinking about with the amount - - show that it means something.

My issue does not pertain to the hobby at all.  I very stupidly made a charge to my credit card and now I'm very concerned about my spouse seeing it.  Because of my previous infidelities, if she sees this particular restaurant charge she'll go absolutely ape on me.  She handles all the finances and sees and pays all the bills.  I shouldve paid cash, but I clearly wasnt thinking.   Stupid, stupid, stupid. I have to do something before the bill comes in.  She's pretty anal, so she will probably notice a missing bill.  I feel I probably dont have much recourse here, but this is a bright group here, so I'm hoping someone can help me out.

All you have to do is call the restaurant, or go over there, and ask to speak to the manager. Tell them that you want to pay for your tab from that night in cash and have them call there credit card processor and cancel that charge. They will be able to reinburse your card withen a minute and the charge will never appear on your statement.

The charge has already been posted to his account (instantly). You are correct that it will be reversed but it will show up as a charge and a credit. Possibly explained away simply by the ols "erroneous charge" excuse. Best of luck!

call the restaraunt, ask for the manager and complain while your wife's there. Say you're not giving out your CC number over the phone. Tell your wife they want you to come down and provide your creditcard to reverse the charge. Then while you're there, apologize and pay cash.

You're definitely in deep with this one.  The only thing I can think of is reporting the card as "lost/stolen", and perhaps speeding that process along by leaving it in the middle of the street someplace.  If the restaurant provides a copy of the signed credit card slip and your signature shows up on it... I think you might need to retain a good lawyer.  Also, be aware that technically, reporting a card as stolen when you've made a legitimate purchase with it is fraud, and therefore punishable by law.  If there's no large amounts, your card provider may not consider it worthwhile to pursue an investigation, but if they do... well, as Tricky Dick Nixon found out, it's the coverup that gets you in the deepest trouble.

if it was recent, you will have to take your wife to that restaurant for Valentines day, make sure you talk to the manager and waiters as soon as possible ablt making your dinner there extra special a real VIP treat.  

If the bill comes before Valentines Day, and she asks about the charge, put up a stink and relent, explaining that you wanted that to be a surprise... you spent time there with the manager trying to set up the perfect date!

The best advice so far has been to let her know in advance that you went out with a friend. If you don't think this will work, max all the cards, cash out all your bonds, withdraw ever last cent from all bank accounts, forward this money to a off shore account, and settle in court at your divorce hearing... At least you'll have a little to pay the lawyers... Oh - not only a divorce lawyer - but a bankruptcy lawyer too...

Open up another credit card. Don't let your SO know you have this and get the statements sent to your place of employment.
