I've received a few odd emails from friends of mine over the past 2 months that i did not respond to. Today i received an email thats a known scam!
Its from one of my friends and it says Please Help i'm in London i was robbed @ gunpoint they took everything, i have no way to get home can you please western union me 1400 pounds.

I didnt respond to the email and tried to contact my friend but didnt get a response. It was from MSN. I would advise anyone using MSN to immediately change your password.

Mea:

I know you're trying to help, but that advise wont work. Many times it's not a case of hacking as much as it is spoofing. Sometimes the e-mail doesn't come from who it says.

Then you have the situation where a person has loaded on to their system a trojan which sends out mail from their system without their knowledge to infect everyone in their address books.

We get on average about 5 of these a week from client e-mail addresses. After we check it out to see if it was a spoofing, pop3 mail send or web mail account we usually just call the client and let them know what we find. Most of the time it's a case of their home or office computer has a trojan in it.

If this is the case, changing your password is useless, the moment you do the more sophisticated malware trojans programs know it.

The best thing you can do is contact the owner of the account and let them know they've been compromised.

Oh.. and Providers heads up.

When you sign up to escort directories, be smart don't use the same password you use on your mail account.

Yes, I know more than I'm telling on that last bit of advise...

Sincerely,

I'm sorry but would you be so kind as to clarify what you are apologizing for ? I don't want to assume. Therefore are you offering apologies for:

a) Getting caught saying what you really think and back peddling at public exposure?

b) For perpetuating an industry wide hypocritical attitude that just because I'm a male agency owner I'm incapable of being sensitive what my people experience nor relate or capable of sharing (offering) solutions in a provider only discussion?

c) For you what appears to be a serious case of myopia ?

Please by all means enlighten so I know what precisely I will offer forgiveness for ?

BTW general notice:
No PM's please that's what the contact page is for on the company website

Whenever I get one of these (and I get them ocasionally), I click on "Show Full Headers" and usually see that the sender is actually different.

For example:
The sender may say MeaCulpa05, but full headers may show MiaCulpa06 or something.
You may get an email from Paypal.com, but full headers may show Paypal.ru
