Seems a bit counter productive

"Violation of the order is a misdemeanor and punishable by a $5,000 and *90 days in jail*, Bowser’s office said."

They providing private cells these days or just enforcing the 2 meter distance limit?

I saw news story on that said MD's stay home rule meant citizens could not leave the state seemed odd but. Tried to find the story and came across this one.

Does this guy looks like a pastor of Vinnie?

I think Hogan said don't leave the region. Since he moonlights as the governor of the DMV at large as opposed to moonlighting as governor of Maryland....you can cross state lines on 495.

I don't think crossing from md into Pennsylvania is allowed as you can't drive by his properties in that direction.

I suppose no shock there -- some journalist changing the statement.

I suppose the idea there is that it might reduce importing anything not wanted and avoids any potential inter-State conflicts about limitation of other state's citizens right to cross state lines under federal law.

Still the thing that didn't make any sense to me was the 90 days in jail for violation -- unless they have really good controls I could definitely see someone getting locked up and then getting infected filing some suit about cruel and unusual punishment as well as mistreatment or wreckless endangerment by the State.

Then again, just how stupid do you have to be to be doing something that gets you charged and convicted?

I will keep my six feet of distance but I'll be damned if I'm gonna be locked up in my apartment like I'm some sort of prisoner.

The first paragraph of the VA Governor's order (attached) requires us the stay at home (with exceptions), but the misdemeanor for violations apply to other paragraphs in the order (gatherings of > 10 persons; in-person classes; public beaches; etc.) So you won't get picked up for visiting your favorite provider!

Agree, the VA EO is so open I've taken it more as pretty much repeating what was already said -- along the lines of "I mean it. I am serious now." I don't think any new restrictions are in place and if we can go out to get a latte at (the drive through) Starbucks I think we can pretty much go anywhere.

While it does classify the violations as Class 1 it doesn't state some mandatory jail time like the DC order seems to have done. (But maybe that is just poor reporting as well).

In any case, I could always just ride my bike and claim outside exercise ;-)

I was wondering if speeding tickets will be less likely these days though.

If anyone is arrested for NOT staying at home or for attending a gathering of more than 10 people, I hope they plead NOT GUILTY on the grounds the order issued by Governor Ralph is unconstitutional on the grounds it violates the right to assemble peacefully.

but with the rest of Maryland and Virginia opening in just a few days, I suspect that the adherence to restrictions will crumble quickly.  Wondering how soon it will be before the Asian massage parlors open up.
