Reasons for Hobbying??

I thought the "not getting enough sex in the marriage" angle was interesting.  Perhaps because is hit close to home.

I wonder what the breakdown is between hobbyists who are
   A. married vs.
   B. unmarried?  

And of those, how many are doing it for:

   1. more sex (ie, libido reasons)
   2. emotional attachment (including the "white knights" who are getting slammed so hard in a parallel post on the "Process")
   3. the thrill of the chase

I'd classfy myself as an A1 (married, wants more sex) with a heavy dose of 3 in there as well (thrill of the chase).

Here's another article for you about our hobby, this time from Emily Yoffe, aka Dear Prudence.  I thought she made some interesting points to our John-in-distress about redoubling his efforst at communication and saving his marriage in the latter half of her response.

I didn't agree with how she chose to characterize the beleagured John in the first part of her response.  (Her use of "barter" and "begging" interpreted his actions in the worst possible light. Why not "make an effort" and "communicate your needs"?)

I don't think Prudence was too judgemental or made a poor use of words. To my mind if the guy wants to hobby he should hobby. I don't see why he feels guilty if he can maintain balance in his relationship with his wife and kids.
