Never under estimate the human capacity for denial, self-delusion and projection.
As we say in NLP " Perception is projection". Everyone has their blind spots and there are no exceptions. Hell, I could tell you stories about my groping in the darkness trying to find and understand my own blind spots.

The phenomena you have observed has a lot to do with perceptual filters ( how one sees the world) and their personal paradigm (what they believe is possible).

Another way this whole thing manifests is the woman who is 300 pounds, goes to a buffet and creates a new standard for feeding one's face. At the end she asks for coffee and Sweet'N Low ®. The waitstaff person says "Oh I'm sorry all we have is sugar.".  At which point the woman looses it and has to be Tazed because she  doesn't want all those calories in her coffee!

Those that practice rimming most likely use a dental dam with some lubricant, I know I do.

The prostate is an erogenous zone for most men. I remember sitting in Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop in New Orleans one October weekday many moons ago. The concept of a Dental Damn just never popped in the mind of any of us.
After all it's such an obvious precaution it didn't occur to any DC board member to state the obvious. You know like, wearing a seat belt may save your life, or smoking is bad for your heath, so don't do it; to jumping out of an  airplane from 5K feet without a working parachute usually is a bad idea.

Heaven forbid when a regular on this board asks a question they get a "smart ass answer" only because around here, we tend to have a bit more fun than the Phily board. I know since PA is also one of my markets and I do read it.. If you haven't' noticed this is a HUGELY active board compared to the Philly. Why? Because we also take the time to joke, grab ass  and there is a real sense of community here.

Most people, however, are not aware of dental dams. I have had to explain to other providers and clients what they are. Rimming is often ridiculed, even in our community.
