The snow is melting fast. City looks like it will be running normal maybe by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Roads are still being cleared. Stores and services are slowly opening up today but far from 100%. I'd stay away for a few more days if u can.

For the most-comprehensive local weather updates, take a look at the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.

The city will be digging out tomorrow (Monday), still. But hopefully things should start functioning after that. (The federal government is closed on Monday, and most local businesses follow that lead.) Looks further like Metro will have limited (underground-only) rail service and very limited bus service on Monday

Until tomorrow sometime when they open.

Most of the restaurants are open. Today most major roads were easy to drive on but many side roads were not even touched.

It's a good time to be an Uber driver, the who city was surging up to 3x and you didn't have to wait to get your next ride.

I don't trust their drivers and would have to be desperate to use them.

I don't live in the city either so, no need.

Trust them? Don't understand can you elaborate? Taxi service is more trustworthy? Taxis were granted an extra $15 per ride through this storm, uber has always been cheaper by almost 30% and considering the $15 extra uber is likely still lower even with there surge fees.

Most uber drivers I've me are nicer than the taxi guys, and cars are cleaner. But hey you probably don't use taxis either do you? I like cashless service, can't find many taxi companies except credit cards, and those who do charge a processing fee that covers their cost using credit cards.

So please explain to me why do you trust uber drivers, guessing you had a bad experience

After the 1996 and 2010 storms of similar magnitude - tgings really took a full week to get back to normal.   Roads may be clear - but almost all roads are reduced by a lane or two - they have to pile the snow somewhere - and traffic is normally bad, but with smaller roads it will be hell until the plow piles melt away.   I'd postpone for a week if I were you.

....will request an SUV today, for a date I have in Georgetown, and will request another for my return home, later tonight.  I did try Uber X, and it was fine.

I prefer to pay Uber an extra $15. than a taxi.  I also like that the funds come out of my PayPal account, so I do not have to worry about having cash.  Knowing that a third party knows which driver is picking me up, and where I am going makes me feel safer than getting in a taxi late at night.  I am well aware that there have been a few incidents with Uber drivers, but they are not the norm.

     Keep safe, and warm!

Hugs and Kisses,
Kelly

Do you tip an Uber driver?
Should you?
How do you do it if money is paid through a credit card account?

Who said anything about taxi? Although, that is one option. I have not used a cab in years so I don't know if they're changing due to Uber, Lyft. Primary problem with them is customer service related which new guys do better. that is not the only consideration though.

Anyone can be an uber driver. a friend of mine has a stepson  who does it. I wouldnt trust him pushing my grocery cart!

I would much rather use a pro car service with someone who has been driving for more than 3 years.

Having said that  I can't wait until they go public with an IPO. Money to be made there.

Yes I tip but that's just me. Drivers are upset because Uber use to say tips were included, a lie. There competition Lyft which I've used also had tipping option at end of ride that comes off your credit card. I don't think the riders are aware how little these guys get paid if there is no surge. Wear and tear on there vehicles, maintenance gas and sometimes added insurance, and the lowering of fees paid to drivers since it became popular years ago. Ask an uber driver how long they have been driving, the attrition rate is unbelievable and while I met people who had driven for over a year these days most I see have either just started or have only a couple months. Now I'm getting picked up by more non English speaking drivers than before.

Fortunately today there is limited subway service, all underground only, and they are not charging, free, awesome. Also bus service is limited but free. I'm sure the roads will be empty except major highways which are clean to the pavement but in my neighborhood there are several side roads with little or no plowing.

You never answered why you don't trust Uber drivers? Have you seen the video or a Taco Bell executive drunk and beating his driver? There are many videos out there where the drivers are beaten. With the in car dash cams that video front and back it's probably a good investment.

Take care stay safe stay home

Ok understood, you order limos and require they send someone with 3 years or more experience right? I seriously doubt that. You generally have little or no trust in anyone I think. Uber and Lyfte made is easy to get rides all from a phone and charged to your credit card, and significantly lower cost compared to taxis.

I will say that as Uber cuts the rates paid to drivers you will start to see less English speaking experienced drivers. But as Beauty said, there is a third party that tracks you in your ride. And those who are bad drivers get lower ratings they get booted from use of app. Hence a high attrition rate as uber weeds out the bad with the help of the riders ratings.

Enjoy you limos, many are cost conscious or making little income and doing there best to get around without owning a car, I'm sure they are jealous of your wealth, they would likely call limos too if they had your money

Stay safe stay home

Don't trust anyone??? No, just Uber drivers. :->

There has been much talk by Uber about consumers replacing an auto purchase with their service. I don't live in a city but I'd rather own a vehicle anyway.

btw, you dont have to be wealthy to use a car service

A ride from Tysons to DC only cost me 24, how much does your car service charge? And you are asking for drivers that have 3 or more years experience yes, wonder what there experience is with snow. Enjoy the day, while you don't care to use it you still haven't qualified the trust issue with any details for why.

I know some who have, but when I request a ride I get quote first, no surprise. If you don't request quote when there is a surge it tells me. The drunks on New Years who got hit with 5-9x surge probably didn't request quote and the price they paid is significantly cheap than a DUI with or with accidents or fatalities.

It's a obvious you just simply don't like Uber. But I can say taxis on New Years were also getting premium service rates. Of course there were several free safe ride services but they take 2hrs to get to you, but free and no DUI

I would definitely stay away this week. Most side streets in the suburbs won't get plowed until Tuesday or Wednesday, so guys won't be able to get to hotels in town. Metro is only running underground trains, which means that you can't get to National Airport, Crystal City or Tysons by train. Once guys are back to work this week, they probably will be behind on their work and won't have as much time to see ladies. It's a real shame because I'm going stir crazy after four days (and counting) stuck at home. I also feel bad for the ladies who are already here and having to deal with cancelations and rescheduled appointments

which is all fine as long as you don't need to take a right or a left on a side  street.  You can't park on the main streets, so you really are screwed.  Took me 47 minutes to go downtown today, another 63 minutes to get back, a distance of less then 3 miles.  Stay home, at least until metro is back at 100 %.  Meantime, heard NYC is almost back to normal.  This town just cannot handle snow and we have a lot of it.

details wtf? do you work fror Uber?

I just gave you a reason. any inexperienced driver can be an Uber driver with any car. if thats not enough for you that's your choice because it's enough for me to not use them.

Not the point to ask for EXACTLY 3 years. driving experience ???

go ahead and  spend your money on Uber I will decline as  I don't have a reason to use them at all.

that was a just a question to her out of curiosity.

I don't like them? Geez what gave you a clue? No I don't like it. with that surge pricing/gouging making it worse. I don't need them at all but apparently you can't live without them. you want to know something else  I've never used Ebay either but strangely enough  I can buy things I need just fine.

a DUI is avoidable if you don't drink and drive.

It was impossible to get a real feel for what was going on there. Sounds like postponing is the best plan. Thank you for saving me a potentially significant headache!

Special note to the dude who asked about discounts: why in the world would you ask someone who is probably already taking a hit financially and having stressful travel woes for a discount? It's tacky to ask for one normally but that's just next level gauche.
I think it's a perfect time to ask for a discount. Pure economics. Sure they are
Taking a financial hit. But the roads are awful and its a royal pain to get out. It seems like it would make sense to offer a discount as inducement for people to go out when the conditions are bad. Obviously, it's up to the lady whether or not to offer one, and I'm making no judgement on someone who decides it's not worth it to lower their prices, but I don't think it's beyond the pale to ask. Especially if it makes someone who might have stayed at home book some time with a provider.

That makes sense if you were the one that was going out. It might not be worth it to crave the conditions, so these gentlemen offered you money as an extra inducement to get you out. So it makes sense it would be the opposite to get people to come to you.
I would agree it's totally stupid to ask for a discount if you are asking a provider to come to you.
