Absolutley..From late September through October when the leaves change the temperatures are moderate and the countryside very pretty. In the Spring, from early April(for the cherry blossoms) unitl late May lots of flowering foliage.

Summers can be awful due to heat and humidity. Winters are crummy..generally iratic weather and if there is a hint of snow, the entire area goes completely spastic thinking the gocery stores will never open again striping them bare of milk and bread. Cars are literally abandoned in the street when there is any snow at all, the drivers assuming cars wont operate in snow I guess.

I know Im describing a town inhibited by lunatics and it would be laughable until you realize these are the people running our country. But please dont let that stop you. Do come visit..there are normal people here too..

Patricia~

For you (and or Jez)...For Your FYI it's mid 80s this week.  I would say that between September and October should be good.  When you get into November it'll dip down into the 60s/70s.

As for the spring, March, April, maybe early May.  Later May and through August can be a bear ... upwards of 90s/100s.

It depends on your body temp and what you like.

Late November thru February early March you have a chance of 50s or lower and probably some snow in the heart of the winter.

Autumn & Spring....However, I think all things considered Oct to mid Dec is best.  Less tourist...better hotel rates.

It depends on what you like and value.

Weather wise, if you like moderate temps and lower humidity, mid Sep to late Oct is best. Into October you will also get a  chance to see the color of the foliage change. That's by far the most popular time of the year to visit Shenandoah Nat'l Park because of the color. Worth the trip if you have the time.

I believe late fall into winter has the cheapest hotel rates. But it is also darker, cold and sometimes wet or icy or snowy.

Early April brings Cherry Blossoms, which are beautiful, but also hay fever and rain and loads of tourists. You've never seen more digital cameras in one place than around the Tidal Basin on a weekend at the blossoms' peak on a nice day.

Summer is hot and humid, hopefully that's gone until 2012.

GL in your search.

Early November avg high is mid 60s, average low high 30s. By the end of the month it's low 50s / low 30s. So much colder than 60s/70s.

-- mid April to mid May and October.  The rest is either too hot and wet (humid) or too cold and wet.  Of course you can always get stretches of a few days of decent weather anytime, but it's unpredictable.
