Hello All! I will be visiting DC soon and was wondering if anyone has any restaurant recommendations? What places are your ATFs?

*Dupont Circle/Downtown Area Preferred  
* Fine Dining to Take out - I'm just looking for the best :)

Since you are from Texas, I will refrain from recommending any bbq joints since it will probably be an extreme let down.

Somewhat of an “old” list (pre-Covid times), e.g. Proof is permanently closed. But there are many newer excellent restaurants in DC that are Michelin rated, Gravitas, Pineapple and Pearls, Rose’s Luxury, to name a few.

A couple recommendations:

--Rasika (Indian). Two locations, the one in West End is closer to Dupont. They do takeout, as do most places in DC these days.
--Sushi Taro is pretty close to Dupont. I like it to eat in but haven't been since COVID. They also have some takeout.
--Kramerbooks is a bookstore/restaurant/bar, more casual. Like Old Ebbitt mentioned above, kind of a DC institution but closer to Dupont. Also does takeout.

Clyde's is a local chain. Georgetown was the first one, and in DC there's another one at Gallery Place. Old Ebbitt and Hamilton are also owned/managed by that company.

 
They are all mid-priced kind of places. I've found the restaurants in this group to be pretty consistent and reliable.

Clyde's in Georgetown is great. And yes an institution as mentioned somewhere here. Also some cool shops around that area -- if you are into shopping. lol

I don't know about fine dining in DC, but here are some upscale traditional and alternative restaurants.

Georgia Grown's
Oceanair
The Palms
The Capital Grille

If you want to feel 'swanky' and a better high end feel, restaurants in Hotels
Hay Adams
Willard (highly recommend to feel "high end")
St. Regis

Not upscale but a DC icon, and super casual. Obama visited
Ben's Chili Bowl

One of my favorites is Masseria, and don’t let the neighborhood fool you. They’ve maintained their michelin star as far as I know. I recommend any of their pastas (all made in-house with flour imported from Italy) and the Masseria Calamari that their sister location, Officina, also serves. Officina is a beautiful concept at the DC Wharf with prime view of the cherry blossoms and fireworks. Officina also dry-ages their own beef if you’re into steaks which I believe they share with Masseria as well. Both have very extensive wine offerings and fairly unique cocktails.

All of Jose Andres restaurants:  
Minibar, Zaytinya, Jaleo, Oyamel, China Chilcano.

Also El Cielo is fantastic.
