Fortunately I never started the muscle relaxers, but it was going that way fast.  Basically it was a sciatic nerve issue that had been slowly getting worse for a few years and causing leg and lower back muscles to tighten up.  What made that situation worse is exercise actually aggravated it.  I had been getting the issue massaged out on a regular basis, but getting a massage every week kind of adds up.  Acupuncture fixed the problem rather quickly.  After a year or so of that with slowly less frequent visits the problem has now stayed away.  I don't even need follow up acupuncture treatments any more.

You would think if these wonderful studies really wanted to have some credibility, they would have a couple of acupuncturist participate to ensure proper methodology and theory was followed.  Instead, that very fact invalidates the results before they even start.  It then becomes more a valid demonstration only of the arrogance and ignorance of the people conducting the study.

Any helpful advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated! If they are willing to come to me that would be a plus :) If not that's OK I just need to see one really bad!! Thank you soo much.

DC is the perfrect place. I've got a list for ya.

  Sorry...just couldn't resist.

I'm probably going to get flamed for posting this, but be advised that acupuncture is nothing more than an elaborate placebo. The placebo effect can be very real of course, but acupuncture is invasive and not without risks.

See, for example:

If you want to see an acupuncturist that's your business, but just be aware of the benefits vs the risks.  :-)

Oh I am fully aware of the benifits and risks sweetie. Thank you!

mouth about something he knows nothing about, you must work for the AMA or something.  Yes this does include many MDs who think they are qualified to comment about something they know nothing about simply because they have MD after their name.  It is a lot like a commercial fisherman trying to tell a mid west farmer how to grow wheat.  Both are food, but the method of getting it is very different.

Acupuncture is based on the pre-scientific notion of "chi," which has no basis in fact. There is no plausible physiological mechanism which can provide the therapeutic benefits claimed by it. And when acupuncture has been tested in reputable studies, it shows no evidence of benefit that is distinguishable from a placebo.

You mean studies conducted by other ignoramuses who have not studied acupuncture and have no real understanding of it.  Yeah, that happens all the time in "medical" buddy.  Conventional U.S. medicine is one of the few disciplines arrogant enough to engage in that behavior.  There is a lot of crap studies in medical literature that consist of mistakes that a freshman chemistry of biology student should have known better not to make.  This especially applies to studies on vitamins or minerals where they use a one variable model without taking into account the synergistic relationship between various vitamins and minerals.  In other words, they are testing it like a drug.  That is ignoramus behavior.  Where else in science can someone justify modeling such a complex system with just one variable and then try and reach a conclusion?  But I don't care to clog up the board with this crap.  By all means please don't ever use acupuncture.  For me, I would have ended up taking muscle relaxers the rest of my life if it had not been for acupuncture.

That is a good thing that you ended the muscle relaxers. I heard that stuff gets in the way of making erections. And of course regular exercise helps to prevent conditions that you need muscle relaxers.

Thus board serves a broad geographic area.  If you're in Frederucksburg, an acupuncturist in Annapolis probably isn't what you're looking for.

And, it's a placebo.  I was open minded until I read up on it and tried it for myself.

I use June, from Reston. She is a  Chinese doctor as well as a superb masseuse. 571-437-1135

Thank you so much!! I appreciate all of your helpful info :) You guys rock!!

My wife used it twice to induce labor....the practitioner is so well known with respect to having success inducing labor that practically every doula in the area knows about him....and he offers a 72 hour guarantee.  His guarantee is that you WILL have the baby within 72 hours or he'll do more treatments for free...(for us, we did the treatment at 1:30 pm, she went into labor at 5 and had the baby the next morning after laboring all night)

and it's not some mumbo jumbo about "chi"...it's about very real pressure points in the body that when stimulated create a response...

You don't even have to go to an acupuncturist to stimulate the points...but it's sort of like trying to give yourself a back massage, or like having an amateur give you a massage versus a professional...

I can't speak to long term cessation of pain, but with respect to inducing labor, I am 100% positive that it works...

after we used him twice, we also sent a few of our skeptical friends...who also ended up with babies within 72 hours or their visit...

Hi,

I'm late to this thread but I have to jump in 'cause I was _very_ skeptical about acupuncture until I started getting treated about a year ago.  I have a great practitioner to recommend (she's also a LCSW so she's really into treating you holistically).  She's up near Greenbelt, and I'll send you her info by PM.

Cheers,

Kohl
