Hello All. I'll be visiting the DC area the first week in July for a conference and I wanted to see if there are any new recommendations for BBFS in the area. I live in Austin, but the local forum isn't very active. That said, I do have several recommendations for around Texas if you ever find yourself down here. Many of the Asian agencies do this. Asian gems. Etc. the local reviews all cover the many Asian agencies and threads are fairly straightforward for those that offer it.

DC is at the top for HIV. What precautions are you taking or you just don't care?

While I'm not sure if there is a preventative option some of the recent developments, at least as they claims go, allow infected people to live normal lives that do not put anyone else at risk. Just saying as I'm not sure, given what treatments are currently available HIV really needs to be some special case that people worry about.

 
I might thing the antibiotic resistant Gonorrhea strains are at least as much of a concern.

Was available as far back as early 2000s by certain BDJ ladies and at least one from Miami Companions. Plus local ladies like Bella/Mindee, a blonde lady from TLC and many others. But it is far more prevalent now unfortunately or not.

Well there's Prep (Descovy) and Doxy pills for prevention of HIV and some other STDs but these days the chance of getting throat cancer from oral sex and HPV is much higher than consumption of alcohol and tobacco! so there's more risk in oral sex than the unprotected vaginal or anal sex.

Sure, people can live long and full lives with HIV. The treatment options in this day and age mean that people living with HIV, who start treatment early, are as likely to die of old age or other natural causes before HIV infection progresses to an AIDS-related cause.  

But - and this is a big but - it's expensive to treat. And the medications are not without side effects, especially when taken for decades. And for a second time, with feeling, it's expensive to treat. The NIH estimates that the average cost to for HIV meds is 36-42k per year. And that's just meds, not labs, not doctors visits where they order the labs, and not treatments for common comorbidities (such as anemia, which can develop with long term use of some HIV meds [again those pesky side effects]).

And then also consider how our federal government continues to cut funding for HIV care, and private insurance companies can exclude your pre-existing conditions. You weren't planning on externalizing the cost of your lifelong diagnosis onto the general population, were you? I'm not passing judgement on doing that as much as reminding you that it's not necessarily a great long-term gamble.

The discussion about HIV being a livable disease is more about destigmatizing HIV. Which is great! Let's keep the nonchalance about living with HIV and continue to not judge people living with HIV. But nobody is saying it's a great infection to have. Think about other long-term health conditions such as diabetes or recurrent cancers that go into remission only to come back... no one is excited about having these issues.

Yes, there are several options for medications (tablets and injections) you can take as pre-exposure prophylaxis. And as a man, you can even take the OG standard, now off-patent, tablets on an ad hoc schedule instead of as a daily lifestyle medication.  

The choice is yours. But it irked me to see you talk about treating HIV like taking a daily multivitamin. Like give it the respect it deserves.
