I thought TER prohibited the creation of an alias that closly resembled an existing Board name. If not....they should.

Not every drunk posts and aliases are from me. there are many drunks on ter. Lol

Plus now that you pointed it out, only an idiot would think that yoko58 and and you are the same person. I dont know if you have similar aliases, but seems to me you usually post under your real handle. Btw, what is up with the oTher BoarD capitalization? Lmfao are you typing from your phone?

I really can't do much about my clones since drunk is a common word. I don't really care either as long as people don't blatantly pretend to be me while causing havoc/insulting someone. I don't needlessly insult anyone who is a friend or otherwise a ter buddy so if he is being a dick or being an idiot, he prolly isn't me.
On the bright side at least it helps me stay somewhat more anonymous mixed in among other drunks.

I am asking the board to think about a situation here for a minute and please respond here for all to see.

I was recently made aware that someone has an alias which if used, would look a lot like I was posting.

After some investigation and research, I have actually confirmed who this person is. The alias has not been used anywhere on TER that I could find.

To my knowledge, this person does not post on this board and used to post very long stories on anoTher BoarD once very popular here in the DC area. He is well known on this oTher BoarD and has been a MOD on many boards, possibly on this oTher BoarD as well.

I once thought of this person as a friendly person as through the years we have had a few ladies we visited in common, I had met him at socials and we always had pleasant exchanges both in person and in e-mails.

Now I come to find out he has had the alias "Yoko58" here for a while.

My thoughts are that it is for no good reason whatsoever and was only chosen to at some point use and attempt to cause trouble.

So here is my question: What GOOD reasons would a person have to pick an alias so close to another person's handle as was done in this case?

Definitely puzzling. I know you've used your handle for years on "this" board, "that" board, and other boards - can't really be an accident nor coincidence. I doubt that he's a Yoko Ono fan born in 1958.

A thought though - I've never used the alias feature so I don't know how the process works; if there's any verification of the email given or not. Could it be possible that Yoko58 used somebody else's email when setting up the alias, maybe to cause him trouble as well, and the email's owner might indeed be innocent? Maybe it's possible, maybe it's not, I dunno.

My two cents - I would think that an alias whose only purpose seems to be to impersonate another user should be subject to being disallowed by the admins. Unfortunately that's difficult to do by an automated process - finding if two names are "close".

Actually, several years ago - I forget which board - I noticed a user whose handle was "Doctor Dave" (spelled out Doctor), but I never saw it again, so I didn't worry much about it.

If nothing else, you've raised awareness of this kind of thing happening.
