Has anyone been successful in meeting someone using this site?  

If so, did reality meet your exceptions? Any issues with the other person or yourself getting to emotionally involved? Anyone caught by their or the other person's spouse?  

Just curious... Sounds like a good idea, until you hear of tales like Jodi Arias.

I tried it several years ago when it first came out and/or hit mainstream media publication.  I was a full fledged member for about a year.  Here is a summary of my experience.

- Met one lady in my one year participation.  And low and behold at the meet and greet at a local coffee shop she begins to give me a moral discussion on how its wrong to be doing this type of activity.  She noted that her very close GF had busted her husband having an affair via AM and wanted to see what it was all about.  Huh?!?!  I informed her that she was playing a dangerous game and I simply left.  

- The site, in my view, is filled with bogus profiles.  For the site to be a "cheat on your spouse" venue the majority of people were very free with posting PICs.  I found this odd given the purpose of the site and was expecting some discretionary means to providing PICs such as emails, etc..  But folks were posting full identity PICs like it was Facebook.

- The pricing is like a rabbigt hole.  You pay money for points/credits and each activity decreases your credits.  If you want to email pay this rate, if you want to exchange PICs pay this rate, etc, etc, etc.

- What I've heard from other Mongers is that the site is full of ladies looking for sugar daddies.  Also AM has it's share of providers.  They also comment that it's the poster child for the search for the needle in the haystack.

- Overall, a big disapppointment in my experience

Fling, AdultFriendFinder, FuckBook, and so on. Almost all of them offer a trial period where you can look but can't contact anyone, you'll see that you get private messages but can't read them. It's a pretty convincing scam, until you look closely at the Terms & Conditions. There will be a line buried down deep in there that says "some profiles are created and operated in-house that do not represent an actual person, and are used for the purpose of enhancing the user experience." Yeah, they basically admit that there are fake accounts.

And not a few, either. The vast majority of them are fake (well, the females at least). Even when you first load most of those sites and do their trial search/create a trial account, it's already set to "I am a: [MALE], Looking for a: [FEMALE]". It's a safe bet who's behind the keyboard. There are real women on the site, most of them are providers/sugar babies, or are so beastly that I wouldn't put my dick anywhere near them.

I tried one of them a few years ago, lured in with the fake private messages and deluge of "hot horny 20-somethings in my area". Paid for a 3 month membership and never even got a response from a real human being, let alone met any in person.

I got laid more from making random friends on MySpace. Not to say those paid sites are completely useless, but you have to put in a LOT of time to filter through the bullshit in hopes of finding that one girl who's half decent looking, not hoping for any financial support, and is REAL.

You reach a point in life where your time is more valuable than your money.  When that happens...find a provider!

If you have LOTS of time, "hook up" sites can work.  But I agree with eric on the time investment required.  And this goes almost equally for the ladies.  Guys time will be spent sending LOTS of messages to find that needle in a haystack.  Ladies time will be spent wading through 100's of messages to weed out the flakes and the weirdos.

I had really good experiences with Ashley Madison. If your interest is connecting with another person rather than insisting on someone with a perfect body, and you're a gentleman about it, you can have some really amazing experiences. I was active on AM from 2004 to 2009, off and on, and successfully met ("successfully" in this context means what you think it does) sixteen different women.  

Attachment is definitely a hazard, as is getting caught, but to some extent that's a concern in this hobby too. I would say my expectations were decisively met, and my sample is large enough, I imagine, to be instructive.

A couple of tips: look for well-written profiles without face pictures; they're more likely to be real.

I have found more real hits in the spring and around the holidays. I have had some positive experiences recently with AFF, both civies and providers. The site has gotten a lot better with it's anti spamming and getting rid of fake profiles.  

Ashely Madison I still have my credits from a few years ago. I have found the site to take a lot of time to get a date.

on a site like Ashley Madison? Here, we know who we are going to meet, we have a real good idea of what activities will be conducted, and at the end, we part ways and don't have much contact until we want to meet again. No emotional strings afterward. No drama.

They think they can get pussy on the side for free without the drama. Bottom line there is no free lunch.

I've been off and on AM for about two years. My results have been mixed. It took a lot of time to wade through the all fake female profiles, the wannabe sugar babies, and the real women who were looking only for conversation. I did develop sexual relationships with several married women I met though the site. In most cases, the sex was rather vanilla but still a good diversion. Like any civilian relationship, these AM relationships do require an investment of time, money (for hotel rooms, meals, etc.), and attention. YMMV, but it could be a viable option if you're willing to invest the time

I agree that it does take some time and commitment to hook up with someone, but it is entirely possible. I was in AM 3 years ago met a smoking hot woman who I spent about 9 months having great sex and other interactions, until she moved out of the area (husband was military). I had deactivated my profile afterward and spent the past three years hobbying.  

Having spent $$$$ on the hobby I decided to reactivate my profile about 4 weeks ago just to see who was out there. Since then I have had multiple sessions of incredible sex with 3 different women and I am in email discussions with two others. What I hear from these women is there are a lot of men on the site that lead off their introduction by sending a picture of their junk.  They also don't represent themselves very well when they write to them. Their messages are filled with spelling and grammar errors. Believe it or not, these things are a huge turn off. So, it's all about how you present yourself and also about figuring out which profiles are fake.  

Anyhow, like anything YMMV. I am not giving up on hobbying but it is nice to also have a few NSA FWB on the side.

Why You Should Never Pay For Online Dating

Today I'd like to show why the practice of paying for dates on sites like Match.com and eHarmony is fundamentally broken, and broken in ways that most people don't realize.

For one thing, their business model exacerbates a problem found on every dating site:

For another thing, as I'll explain, pay sites have a unique incentive to profit from their customers' disappointment.

As a founder of OkCupid I'm of course motivated to point out our competitors' flaws. So take what I have to say today with a grain of salt. But I intend to show, just by doing some simple calculations, that pay dating is a bad idea; actually, I won't be showing this so much as the pay sites themselves, because most of the data I'll use is from Match and eHarmony's own public statements.
