I believe myself to be in your 0.1% Most providers appreciate my desire to keep STD free, and have said they wish everyone possessed more of the concerns you mentioned.
Yet, others have called me a Germophobe, OCD, and some said I am not suited for the hobby.
In a recent thread, a hobbyist recounted encounters with two providers in which there was "private to private" contact. The response was much outrage and scorn (heaped mainly on the hobbyist). But to me, there's a bit of hypocrisy at work here. You don't have to spend a lot of time in this community to realize that BBBJs and DATYs are an article of faith for most of the hobbyists that post reviews and for many, if not most, providers. "Private to private" contact is not the only way to transmit an STD. If you're BBBJing or DATYing, you're risking your health and the hobbyist or provider's health, along with the health of anyone else you do these practices with. Whether it's "less" risky or not is not the point. I don't say this to judge anyone. Everyone who participates in this hobby knows the risks, decides what level of risk they are comfortable with, and acts accordingly. If you've done the research and figure that the odds of catching something from a particular activity are low enough for you to be comfortable taking the risk, go for it. If you haven't done the research and just don't care what the odds are, that's fine too. I just think that those who are living in a glass house should put their stones away. Maybe there are some people in this community who really do get tested for everything every 3 months, practice safe(r) sex scrupulously by not having any sexual contact with anyone without a latex barrier in place, and inform their civilian partners of their sexual histories so that those partners can make an informed decision about the risks they are willing to take. Those folks can throw stones if they want. But the other 99.9% should stand down.
