There are some providers who have been successful in getting the records removed. In Maryland the min in 3 to 7 years not sure about the other states. The problem is that you have all these bigdata/hadoop businesses downloading data 24x7. Also keep in mind that the records never get erased from interpol. If you go for a security clearance they have access to the stuff that is blocked from the public. Interpol is also used by the financial services industry.

Those are all three different jurisdictions. VA is the toughest, stupid commonwealth. I'm super careful down there. But a lawyer is your best bet with assisting you with this. I regret not reaching out to the many free legal services provided just for providers before I got in a situation. In VA, it CANNOT be taken off. That I know for a fact.

in DC some misdemeanors, including solicitation, can be expunged after a 2 year wait, upon special application, if the prosecutor doesn't dispute and the judge permits.  Usually permitted if no other offenses on the record.  If you have a record of any sort, or reoffend, no deal.
The record closure does effect publically available records and background searches for employment, but doesn't cover gov employment searches, police searches, or searches by youth  programs.   You can self apply with a kit from Legal Aid.

Basically, in Virginia the charge would have to be either dismissed ("nolle pross'd") or you would have to be found not guilty at trial in order to have the charge expunged.
