Im seeing more and more of that here. I honestly don't understand what purpose is served by using an alias. Especially when many know who you are anyway?

I belonged another board that had a serious alias problem and even tho I was "Typhoid Mary" on that board I never hid behind a fake name......well, at least until I got booted for life. Then I made a few visits under different names by necessity.

-Present opposing points of view without appearing wishy-washy
-Participate in discussions without people having preconceived ideas about you
-Ask stupid questions without appearing stupid
-Troll or post flames
-Fabricate stories
-Leak information about other people
-Gives you a sense of privacy
-Protect your views and business from your career

I am sure there are more. I got that list from googling "pros and cons of using an alias".

There are  legitimate reasons, however more often than not it's used so a poster can be a complete "Rectal Perforation" and execute cowardly attacks.

then buy you a beer next time I am in town.

1. GOOGLE! I hate their BOTS! They pick up on TER posts.

2. My real handle does not get blacklisted by angry hookers because they don't like my posts.

3. Because I can.

4. Because I feel like it.

5. Because I want to.

6. Because it pisses off mangina types, white knights and those who are PC.

7.Because I like the split personality

Why do dogs lick their balls?  Because they can?

In ten plus years of board membership, I never felt the need to hide behind an alias on this or any other board I belong (or have belonged) to.

some of my comments/suggestions could be taken as soliciting business.

The Good thing is that TER has limited the number of aliases.

I like that mentality; I would never let some newbie puff their chest and tell me what I can or cannot say, especially if they're my opinions.  Although I keep all my posts appropriate and non-offensive, I can't stand it when someone has the urge to make some snarky or smart ass remark just because they think it's OK.  We should all maintain some type of professional courtesy; we're all in this hobby together and we should be watching each others backs, and make this enjoyable for everybody.
