Not sure why, but curiosity has gotten the best of me and I'd like to try this hobby out.
From my limited time here, it seems like most providers require references. How do I deal with this as a first timer?
I have read that I should stay away from backpage. Is TER pretty much the best source for me to be looking? If so, is the VIP membership worth it?
I have also been told to stay out of MD but it would be the most convenient for me. Chrissy (155844) is based out of MoCo and I was thinking about getting my feet wet with her. Thoughts?

you have to get that! Go pay for the membership right now. Also, get P411 and see newbie friendly providers there, and then ask them if you can use them as future references. No shortcut here. I am sorry but that is just the way it is.

The first thing you want to do is get yourself a TER VIP membership. This is a great resource for researching the ladies. And the info on the Newbie board is invaluable.
Next get yourself a date-check and/or p411 account. I did both.
Then you have two options: contact an agency- easiest way to get your first few okays on the verification sites. contact an indy - You'll want to find one who is newbie friendly and has a strong/respected reputation.
Once you get a few okays on the verification sites and a couple of reviews approved things become much easier.
Just remember to be patient and not to take the negative comments personally. This is all meant to be fun and enjoyable. And I especially thank the ladies for the wonderful picture themes. You are a joy and a treasure.
.....these women are people, somebody's daughter, mom, friend, lover, co-worker. There are as many reasons that they provide as there are providers. My perception of the provider industry has changed so drastically in the year that I have been doing this, and the emotional fulfillment that I have gained from these relationships is something that I treasure. Maybe this won't surprise you, but it sure as hell shocked me. They have fulfilled needs that I didn't even know I had and it has been wonderful. I have never thanked a provider for the sex, but I have often thanked them for the intimacy.
...well said. I will admit, I'm going on my 14th year doing this and I tell ya all the wonderful, intelligent, and engaging ladies I've met smashes most of the stereotypes of providers. Some have have even had Civi potential.
I said "most." I have run across a few scaries but the genuine provider has been more than what I expected when I first got into the hobby.
I feel the same way...what my "vanilla" or "real" relationships lack, can be found with a provider...of course, there are many reasons for this but I've spent enough time and money with shrinks trying to figure this out...now I just say WTF I wish I had that money back because I now know where to spend it! Soldier on...
