LEL’s earlier comment about activity got me to thinking, so I took a peek at posting activity on this board going back the last three years by quarter. After peaking in 3Q05 with 1,898 posts that quarter activity fell off by more than 50% over the next three quarters falling to a low of 894 posts in 2Q06. In the past quarter ended 30-Jun-07 this board enjoyed 1,787 posts, not quite the all time high but the second highest quarter by far of the past three years.
But quantity isn’t quality. IMHO, and meaning no disrespect to our long-term members, I also think that the quality of the discussion has improved too but that’s much more difficult to measure. After reviewing this data I’d be very interested in your nominations for the best post/thread during the past four quarters. I’d appreciate it if you would please post a comment to this thread with a detailed reference or a direct link to any post or thread that struck you as particularly memorable during the past year.
The reason we don’t have a “Top Ten Posters” button is because of the popularity of the use of an alias on this board. It is my understanding that the Top Ten function identifies posts by username not alias. This could result in the “outing” of some of our more prolific posters. Since not everyone over on the GG boards is as open minded about TS it was felt that a little discretion in this area would be a good thing.
I don’t know quite what you’re asking about # of “views”, I guess this is something like number of visits or hits to the forum and/or its posts. Not sure that has a whole lot of meaning – look back at just about any post that is a year old. Here’s a link that will take you back one year – some of the posts have over 2,000 reads:
As we all know most of these reads are well after the post has become stale – my guess is that all these reads are from search bots and not real pairs of eyes. Maybe LEL can tell us if TER keeps track of # of “hits” and what this means in comparison to other boards here on TER? Far more interesting would be the number of visits by registered members whether they post or not…
