exactly. they are looking for a sucker to send them money or something. It starts with a general meeting, a set of fake pics, they want to come see you then they ask for a ticket, etc. I have not fallen for that via this method but I had a russian hottie on a dating site fooling me till she asked me to wire money to her bank for the flight over to see me.  Believe it or not, people fall for it.

So on a whim I posted to CL and got some, errrr, unusual responses. Here's one:

"Hi

I just read your post in craigslist. I am looking for someone too. i tired to send you my pic in this email but it didn't work, I would not mind sharing my phone number with you so we can talk on the phone instead of email. but I would like to make sure I can somewhere nice, but since this is my first time meeting someone online trust you before you can get my phone number, I liked what I read in you post tho and I think we may something ini comman, I found service does a safety check for free, I was also able to put my picture there too, when you go to the link its on the left side. after you verify yourself the site will show you my number. here is the link to the site http://sweetrans3st4.servebbs.com its free to verify, so can you use that to contact me plz? its very simple. after they verify you the site site will show my number and we can talk on the phone.
Bye, (her name here)"

Now, I'm not about to  click that link: I figure at best it'll ask me to join some site and cost me some $$ -- and at worst it'll zap my computer with a virus. At least that's what I think....of course, i may be wrong, so in case i am, i deleted the girl's name at the end so as not to cast aspersions ... prematurely...

I checked the link via my iPhone on the 3G net and the link appears benign.

(So Dog you don't have to risk your network now... LOL)

It reroutes you to a site called "FSVerify.com" which appears to be a contact site.  I didn't stay long enough to see if it wanted $$, but if the girl on the photo is trans, then I'm Brittany Spears.

I didn't delve into it further, but it looks like someone fishing for a sucker.

Sorry.

PS - There is a reason the tried and true girls of TER are the best!

LOL,
TS Jamie :-)

Total scam.  I've gotten emails like that many times in response to craigslist posts.

Scam, scam, scam. If you post on CL make sure you require all responses to include some arbitrary text like "fun time tonight" or something in the subject. Any response that doesn't include your text should be deleted without opening since it probably came from a spam bot.

This doesn't mean the other responses are valid, you still have to check everything out, but at least you can wean out the bots this way.
