jesus catalan Pleads Guilty to Involuntary Manslaughter in Killing of Transgender Paulina Ibarra April 26, 2011.
Jesus Catalan pleaded guilty in Superior Court in downtown Los Angeles to involuntary manslaughter in the killing of transgender Paulina Ibarra in April 2009. Catalan received 12 years in a plea agreement, meaning he will be eligible for parole in 10 years, according to LAPD Lt. Wes Buhrmester who has been involved in the case from the beginning.
There are times when the law seems to be at odds with Justice, Crime and Punishment. In my opinion, there are situations when the punishment just does not seem to fit the crime and that the old "eye for an eye" type of punishment to = justice is in order. 12 years, with the possibility of parole in 10 seems to be a bit light for this punk. Hopefully, he's already serving as his cell blocks new little bitch.
I do hope that with the trial over, it will, in some way help Paulina's family and friends to take another step in finding some degree of closure from the loss of their loved one.

What a shame. I have been following the case and checking his court dates online. I'll have to do some more research. From my understanding, he stabbed her over and over in her apartment. I must be missing something? 12 years? I remember the Americas Most Wanted episode featuring Paulina and a small clip of her sister crying saying she just wanted to be with her friends, which is the apartment complex where she was killed. She was such a nice person, its such a shame that this guy gets off so easy. My heart goes out to her friends and her family. She was so young and had so much ahead in life to look forward to, all taken away by this thug.
What BS. So the guy got hurt stabbing Paulina because she put up a fight and he gets off easy????? 12 years for killing someone.....I personally feel they should have overlooked his plea bargain and gone for murder. If he would not have been convicted and set free, I have a serious feeling he would have been toast anyways. Now he will be out in 10 years and back at it again.
Well, for what its worth, Rest in Peace Paulina and if any of her family members happen to read the board, I myself am sorry to see that she is no longer here. Again, she was such a nice person.
..it's worked on the Manson followers and Sirhan Sirhan. I know in DC, we have the DC Trans Coalition, as well as the Transgenderd Day of Remembrance. Groups like that will be instrumental to keeping him locked up the full term.I'm going to see what I can find out about LA. Sometime things in DC are on the national, not local level.
