Fortunately, your guess is very, very wrong. The ladies are NOT intimidated by me in the least! But quite frankly, THEY are not the ones who ask about "second cups," or ED, or falling in love with providers.

Providers narcissistic???!!!??? Where on EARTH do you get that information? To my knowledge, there has been NO VALIDATED STUDY deeming providers "narcissistic." Tracy Quan?!? Since when is she a social scientist? Perhaps that's a case of the pot calling the kettle black.

I can tell you that I have visited the Providers Only board several times in the past, and no one is either intimidated or uncomfortable. This board was created for anyone with psychosexual issues, pure and simple - and to their great fortune, there aren't that many such providers who maintain a successful presence on TER. In fact, to be a successful provider demands a great measure of sanity...and if there aren't any problems, why make them up? Occasionally, we get providers who have some boundary issues, but mercifully, they are rare.

I have the UTMOST respect for providers - they walk the walk and talk the talk if they are successful in this business. I don't demand any more respect from them than I do from anyone else, provider, client or someone not involved in the business at all.

Perhaps you are having "lascivious" thoughts about girlie catfights? Rest assured, however, that none of that stuff does happen between me and any provider who posts here. They read but they don't post because they don't have the problems this board was created for - simple as that.  They read and are periferally interested parties, but no more.

..most ladies are are intimidated by LG. It's not because she chases ladies off or is unkind, but because she is clearly more intelligent and better educated than just about any other lady who posts anywhere on this board.

The other thing is most providers are very narcissistic (read Tracey Quan's online posts) and coming into a forum where a woman is in charge does not make them comfortable. They are very good at manipulating men, but know a woman will see through them in a heartbeat.

I read this board regularly.  And I can assure you, I am not even remotely intimidated by LG.  I do, in fact,  have great respect for her.

My purpose for reading this board is primarily to gain insight into men.  It serves its purpose well.  And sometimes I even learn about biology and anatomy, although my college level science classes covered most of the necessary topics as well.

To say that providers aren't here because we're intimated or dwarfed by LG makes me think that you think that all providers (or perhaps all women?) are insecure and catty.  LG - can you please let him know that this is not the case?

This board seems to be about gents querying issues of concern, no matter how small or large, to LG. The gals have long since been-there-done-that and moved on; from our lovely lady friends, a giant Yawn! We gents hang on every word LG has to say, notepad firmly in hand...and thank god for LG!

I was venturing a theory, nothing more, nothing less. As for Tracey Quan, she's a former provider who also has a theory, I'm assuming, based on her familiarity with the business from her end. I didn't suggest she was a "social scientist."

I was not suggesting you were hostile or in any way condescending to providers. I don't know the answers here, I simply throw things out for discussion purposes. I guess this ends the discussion on my behalf.

And that's a shame, because more participation from women makes the board more interesting.

It's also bad for business, and the last I heard, TER was still a for-profit business.  Are the owners of TER aware of the lost revenue caused by this?

Quite right, and I'll go it one further: it's because many (most?) of the participants on the GD board act like college frat boy assholes, and not only do the moderators condone it, they often participate in the carnage themselves. I don't even go to the GD board anymore specifically because of that; I stick to the other boards (local, Newbie, TS) where the moderators actually care about doing their jobs properly and enforcing decorum and civility.

And like you observed, I'm not the only person (hobbyist or provider) that has been driven away from the GD board by its free-for-all atmosphere. I can't imagine it's good for business, especially if some unsuspecting person posts an innocent question and subsequently gets flamed to a charcoal briquette by the "clever" people there. If that's the impression that someone gets from TER and decides they want nothing more to do with the site, that's revenue lost, and that's not good for ANY business. We don't need LG to "drive women away" with her "awesomeness" (which I also don't believe for a second, FWIW); the inmates running the asylum are doing a good job of that on their own!

End of rant. We now return you to LG's awesomeness.

I used to be a frequent poster years ago. But I left this site too many times with a knot in my stomach. As it's been expressed, we providers have learned and moved on. It doesn't make us less intelligent or uncaring.  Some of us have just had enough of being blasted out of the water when we list a legitimate concern or opinion.

I'd rather be feeling good than uncomfortable or angry.  I choose my time on hobbyist boards more carefully these days.

You're usually okay if you stay away from the obnoxious-free-for-all boards (Politics, Sports, and especially General, which may as well not have any moderators at all) and stick with the better moderated ones, including this one and the regional boards. Yes, I know that the Sports and Politics boards aren't moderated; work with me, people.

The super macho view does seem to dominate, the trolls are encouraged and I even had a PM exchange with a GD moderator to that effect a while back. To be clear, we were discussing something else and he just injected a little comment along the lines of how a certain particularly abrasive troll was right more often than not, just saying the truth and most people do not want to hear it. Like with some much stuff on the Boards, I paused briefly, took a breath, and decided not to respond.

The refuge of the nasty is so often - "well, I am just telling the truth," but to hear that from a moderator in reference to someone like that was a surprise.

I agree that you have to approach the GD board with caution, be in the right mood, have some time to kill and be very careful about what you post. Easy to ruin your day otherwise. I do not have the same problem with this Board, the Newbie Board, or even my local Board (Chicago). But I do believe that both the Newbie and Chicago Boards have a pretty high level of provider participation.
