SA Google App

Hi
Folks, I recently purchased a new smart phone and am learning, very slowly, how to use all of its many amazing features. I thought I'd share an interesting discovery which might be useful.  It turns out there are 3 ways to view SA on the phone.  Not that I do that very much, I still prefer the bigger screen on the iPad or PC. But anyway, here's what I've learned so far. All you tech savvy people probably already know this stuff.

1. Download the SA App.  This app sucks!  It's hard to navigate. And when you view a profile and try to read her "about me" and "seeking" sections you get a message that says "this feature can only be viewed while accessing SA from an internet browser".  That's ridiculous, I mean how much bandwidth could a few lines of text possibly take up compared to pictures??  Anyway, I found the app useless.  But it does explain why some SBs who contact me don't seem to have read the carefully written things I put in my profile.  They can't!  The app doesn't even show them what I wrote.

2. View SA's "Mobile Version".  OK so I opened Google Chrome and went to the SA site via that internet browser.  The version that displays on the phone is excellent!  Full featured, easy to navigate, at least for anyone already familiar with the site.  All the text, pics, and features are there. It was even easy to put the SA icon on my home screen for easy direct access without having to first manually open Chrome every time.  I recommend this version highly if it's compatible with your phone.

3. The "Computer Version" of the website.  As I studied my new phones features I found this hint:  "Some websites automatically show you a "mobile version" of their page. If you want to see the computer version of a website, tap Menu, then Desktop Site".  So I tried it.  I indeed got the exact same view I'm used to on my PC, but the phone's screen is so tiny you'd need a microscope to actually read anything.  A fun experiement but I returned to the Mobile Version very quickly!

So that's it. I recommend option #2, use the site's Mobile Version, not the App nor the Computer version.  Hope this helps, and
Happy Hunting!

Thanks for the research, Papa Sweet!

My findings are the same, and I use an iPhone. SA was recently banned from the Apple App store, so SA posted a work around that aligns with #2 & #3 from your post. It works well.

About a week ago, I also found that the Firefox browser has problems viewing all pages on the site on a PC.  It let's you log on and view the home page, but trying to access the search, messages, interests or a specific profile just loads the "frame" elements on the top and sides of the screen while the center section with dynamic content just shows the spinning marker. Tried on two PC's with two different accounts.

So I'm only using Microsoft Edge and Chrome.

My Firefox browser is doing the same as yours. Been using Microsoft Edge to get in.

Sweetman, well over a year ago, SA changed its app to comply with Google's "user generated content" policy. In other words, Google wimped out on its own liability for content users provide in apps from its Play Store. The effect of this was, as you point out, rendering the app virtually useless if you want to read context other than to view photos and read basic details and communicate.

I've had the same problem using Firefox to access SA on my PC. Weirdly, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. And when it doesn't, if I click on any thumbnail all I get is the dreaded, "no longer active or you have been blocked" message, even when I know that's not true.  If I turn off the PC and restart, then Firefox usually accesses SA just fine, for a while.  Then the glitch pops up again, I switch to the Chrome browser, and SA works fine.

That's really interesting.  I assume they wimped out due to the SESTA/FOSTA law that made website owners potentially liable for user generated content.  I had not realized that the changes to the SA app are just one more crappy unintended consequence of this law. I've been a vocal opponent of this evil law since it was enacted. It was sold to our legislators as a means of fighting human trafficking, but in reality is a huge attack on internet freedom and freedom of speech. And as far as trafficking goes, it has simply pushed the bad guys deeper into the shadows, plus it's had a negative impact on honest sex workers trying to make a living.

Maybe this problem only appears with PCs to Firefox to SA ,and not when using a Mac.
