I have recently started to have a problem holding my erection.  My norm for decades has been that I am a one pop guy but I can hold out with a good erection for over an hour and sometimes an hour and a half. For the last three for four months I have had many occasions when I got hard fine but then lost it. Since this has never happened before I am a bit concerned.

I am in my 60's.

Have you seen a doctor about this?  ED can be a normal part of the aging process but it can also be brought on by any number of other medical conditions all of which can be dangerous if left undiagnosed.  High blood pressure, heart disease and Diabetes are all examples of ailments that could be causing your ED issues even though they may not show any other symptoms yet.  Get checked out if you haven't already.

Dear AnonQ,

1. Make an appointment with your GP

2. Make an assessment of your current medications for the following conditions:
a) Prostate
b) Diabetes
c) High blood pressure
d) Hair loss
e) Depression/anxiety

If you have been prescribed any of these, chances are that your dose may need to be adjusted or the meds changed.

If none of the above applies to you - discuss ED meds such as Viagra, Levitra or Cialis with your healthcare practitioner.

On the other hand, I'm just curious....are you "holding out" for the benefit of the provider? Are you masturbating, starting/stopping and otherwise tampering with the equipment? I mean, 1.30 hrs is a loooong time to stay erect, no matter what circumstances. If not, then just chalk it up to old age and proceed with your consult for ED meds.

My tits don't even stay erect for 10 minutes anymore ;-)

Yup, David8,

You shouldn't have to worry about Lipitor, so that's one down. But performance anxiety certainly doesn't help...although worrying about having performance anxiety is even worse - you know that "fear of fear" concept. On the other hand, you could make a date with the doc and wait until you get a clear plan of action. That should take care of any future anxiety. The majority of men do very well on ED drugs, or else they wouldn't be such hot sellers.

I generally do not make any medical recommendations, since I am a therapist and not a physician; believe it or not, but your internist should be highly qualified in discerning which one of these drugs is best for you. All I can say is that Cialis can be taken on a daily basis, whereas the other two are more or less restricted to episodic use.

Best to check with the doc - don't worry, it's going to be JUUUUUST FIIIINE :-)

Cialis and Levitra 5 mg are now recommended by doctors to take every day after a radical Prostatectomy to  stimulate blood flow to the penis.

Yes, some mornings.  Not as often as I used to.

Cock ring is the answer.  Once you get hard, put on the ring at the base of the penis and you'll stay hard for as long as you like.

I have had basically the same issues since 1985...
After years of hearing my SO complain and me trying every friggin shrink, providers, affairs, etc. etc. thinking well maybe this time it will work, I about gave up...The hell of it was I got very hard until the moment of insertion...Then I was spagetti. Or worse I came in about 20 seconds. I tried the ED drugs and they worked somewhat, but I never got that hard hard result. And sometimes they gave me pounding headaches the next day or I had other minor effects. The frustration level was beyond belief until I met a urologist(one of many)in 1995.  I was going for a ED script and after listening to all my issues he said "Why don't you take the injection" He went on to explain that there is a compounded formula called 'Tri-Mix' Its' an injection and believe me did it ever work...When I say it keeps you hard, believe it...And you stay hard after multiple pops...In fact an average time is about 1.5 to 2 hrs no matter what you do or think about...It is great for swingers parties...The negative is you give yourself the shot in the lower area of the shaft...Ok a little pain for a lot of pleasure...Now I am not recommending this for everyone, you need to see your doctor, and he has to know about this formula...I have had several MD's who are not aware and have asked me a lot of questions about it and I always refer them to my urologist or compounding pharmacist...The best part for me is I no longer care why or what caused my problem (sorry this post is so long)

Are you asking this question becase it is a sign that you DON'T have ED?

I'm asking because I am in the same boat as the OP.  I get hard, stay hard during a BBBJ... then once the condom goes on it's starts to go down.  Sometimes really quick before insertion... sometimes I get a good 2 or 3 minutes of intercourse then it starts to go down.

I do have rock hard erections every morning.. .so is this a sign that it is something else?

Dear pr0n,

There are zillions of reasons for why men lose their erections. We have gone over the most important ones many times on this board. Some reasons are psychological; others have to do with decreased sensitivity because of the condom, or physiological issues such as aging, meds or generally altered physical condition.

Without a thorough workup or a visit to the doc, it's impossible for us - or I should say me, since I'm the advice giver here - to say what the problem is. Clearly, you don't seem to have complete ED, since you get "rock hard erections every morning."

Change provider, change the condom, change the neighborhood, change your life - situational ED largely depends on...the situation.

I wouldn't rule out a doctor visit and a scrip for ED meds though,
