As for Guaro, my Guaro days are well behind me. Four of us drank about 20 bottles of that nasty shit on NYE in Bogota several years back, it gave me the worst hangover I can remember in decades.
I honestly don't know why you would "hate" the Del Rey, I can completely understand why you wouldn't want to stay there as I fully concede the place has turned into a shit hole and did so several years back, but it's still an institution in CR and "hate" is such a strong word.
BTW for anyone else reading this, right next door to the HDR is a hotel called The Sleep Inn which is part of the American hotel chain, and while not fancy, it is very modern and very clean, and a much better option than the Del Rey. I think anybody traveling to Costa Rica should at least visit the HDR once, but most of the best talent is now in Jaco and has been for several years now.
Outside of the place in the 90s - I was rolled by (say maybe 10) kids... Oldest was maybe 16. I went down swinging but they sent me to the hospital with no money and no passport...
In retrospect, it felt like some of the staff at HDR were in on it but I'm not 100% sure... If any tourists are thinking of going - watch yourself while in that neighbourhood...

I have heard many (even most) of the SB's I see tell me that they want one, special SD and after finding me they stopped looking. With the exception of one, none of them has deactivated their SA profile and they log in regularly. I would be foolish to think that the sugar I am providing them covers every possible funding need they have. To be clear, I expect my cat to stay in the house all the time, not my pussy.
