... I have been receiving similar responses not just on SA but on Tinder, too. I do have a WhatsApp account but it's mostly for overseas calls and I get the distinct impression that the people who want to go to WhatsApp are fakes who actually are overseas...
I may be wrong but so far I haven't seen anything to the contrary.
We all know it's a Good Idea to migrate our conversations with POTs off of SA to a different platform, especially when the conversation starts to get specific about $$. I always offer my email address or text number for the purpose. But lately I've had several SBs tell me to give them my whatsapp or Telegram "so we can communicate more conveniently". I don't use any of those and see no reason to do so. When I request that we stay on SA, go to text, or go to email, they get insistent, then they get pissy, then they drop me. What is so wonderful about whatsapp? Do you guys all use it and I'm simply an ignorant old codger who needs to get an update?

Do a google search regarding WhatsApp scams. KIK may be a better option due to know phone number involved. Those so called SB’s are probably wanting to scam you.
Nothing all that unusual about WhatsApp. It's encrypted, but so is iMessage anda lot of others. I believe Telegram creates user names so your phone number is not visible, but WhatsApp is based on your number. The big advantage though is you can be anywhere in the world and have free texts and calls. Most of the time it's apparent if you're foreign but some gals have a US number but text from abroad. I use it simply because everyone else does, but not so much for SBs, it may be a sign they are outside the US.
These are Millennials. WhatsApp & snapchat, are perceived as the cool , encrypted apps for messaging. Telegram, Line, (and maybe WeChat) are the cool apps used outside the US, especially Asia and Latam.
Text and email are the "MySpace" tools used by their grandparents ( i.e.: Us!) We used to pull over our cars at a phone booth to look up an address, remember? Tell a POT that and she'll realize what a truly old fucks we are.
You may not know it, but there are still live @aol.com email addresses out there. But don't ever give that address to a POT. LOL
The idea that whatsapp, among others, is good for overseas communication is something I was not aware of, and makes me NOT want a whatsapp account a lot! I encounter plenty of overseas scammers as it is, thank you very much. But I do appreciate Herb's comment that the millennials think these new apps are cool, so maybe eventually I'll have to change my ways. In the meantime, I guess I'll keep pulling over to look for phone numbers in phonebooths! The good old days really were a pain in the ass!
