Seems like one can deal with AIDS or other STDs by using protection.  What about herpes?  I don't have it, don't want to get it and don't want to get it and give it.  Are condoms sufficient to avoid it?

I know someone who got herpes from giving her boyfriend a hand job. She had a paper cut on her hand.

On the other hand, condoms are not going to prevent herpes with any certaintly either.

and do a search on "herpes whitlow". This is, most certainly, a possibility.

It is quite frequent that posts about sexually transmitted diseases are made here in hopes that someone else in the community may offer advice.

No matter how well intended such advice may be unless that person is a health care professional with expertise in the area of concern it may often turn out to be wrong or misleading at best.

Go to a reputable source such as the CDC web site.

and I have to say I'm quite impressed.

I could not agree more...on the other hand, while knowledge is power, superstition and heresay is paralizing...consequently, beware of alarmists as well.  The internet is full of BS and many doctors can be wrong or misinformed.  As Morgan suggested, get informed as much as you can, go to the original literature (look at a search engine called MEDLINE)  and CDC reports.

Hey, 3 out of 4 clients have herpes as well. In fact as much as 80% of all adults have oral herpes and 20% have genital herpes. 90% are not aware that they have it. Seems like it is going to be tough to not run across partners with herpes. Sores can be on just about any part of the body. Hopefully you will not have a severe reaction when you contract the virus.

I was with her when she came back from the doctor and he told her it was herpes and she must of had a open wound on her hand when she gave him a hj.

Imagine if she gave him a bj without the rubber! I wonder if he had the sense to tell her, that he had herpes??????? Probably not, which sucks big time. I believe that most won't say a thing about their illness, for their need for sexual gratification is more important, which is ashame.

STOP!...etienne is right insomuch that 80% (actually 98%) of adults have herpes...THE IMPORTANT THING IS WHICH ONE!  there are multiple types and this is what matters.  The type we ALL have is harmless (more or less unless you have AIDS as well).  Genital herpes is obviously the one you want to avoid.  So I ask you, if 20% of providers have genital herpes, and this story about a HJ is true, how come we all don't have it!??  This thread is confused due to the different HERPES out there and which ones we would like to avoid.

there is another reason for clean shaved genitals.  A fur rug down there can hide the tell tell signs, not fool proof but you can't hide active leasions under a fur rug when the fur rug isn't there, and that goes for genital warts too. Providers AND hobbyists.
