that Melania Trump was once an escort are completely false.  She sued the Daily Mail, who wrote the story back during the campaign, for $150,000,000.  The case was recently settled by the Daily Mail ADMITTING they made the story up, a public apology to Mrs. Trump, and a few million dollars (exact amount not disclosed).  I'm not being political.  My response would be the same if you said Hillary Clinton went from hoe to first lady.  I'm just being factual.  Your post doesn't necessarily make you look stupid, just uninformed.

With that said, if I could get that kind of a settlement, I wouldn't care if someone started a false story that I did lap dances at a Mexican truck stop.

If you are a regular, the primary reason to pay some taxes is to avoid having an income rate inferred based entirely on the imagination of the IRS -- which they can and will do.

Unfortunately the primary reason we are taxed is to feather the beds of non-productive people.

In the context it was written, AND considering it was written by someone who is an escort, I am pretty sure it was written with tongue firmly in cheek. Somehow I doubt Mia is going to use "escort" as a slam any more than you or I would slam someone for being a "trick"

IOW, lighten up Francis, it was a joke.

Besides, I might pay to fuck Melania Trump (when she was younger of course), I would pay to NOT  have to fuck Hillary Clinton.

There's nothing more American than tax evasion, save for perhaps corn whisky.

That said, if I were a provider, I'd have a consulting company setup to show some income, and to solve employment gap issues later down the line. That way I can pay taxes on that income, but it wouldn't be high enough to amount to much (sub 25k). Then keep as much cash out of the bank as would be possible. Throw the rest into something like LocalBitcoin, where you exchange cash for coin in person, and use that to pad my bank account if needed by selling it at an exchange. You pay 15% on the bitcoin profits, so you're pretty well off there too.

The vast majority of hookers live "off the grid." Many never pay a dime in taxes. The ones who did stripping and porn paid that portion of their taxes since that gets reported. The ones I knew rarely paid a dime on their "hooker fees."

Many don't make enough to live large enough to attract IRS attention.

Perhaps, but CDL dealt with that (in the most CDL-y way he knows how). Ignorance is just that, not knowing, it's not like she's literally hitler or something.

The reason that that story had so much traction is that it was plausible. Hot russian woman, aging billionaire playboy, quick relationship progression. People saw how DailyMail presented it and wanted it to be true.

Also, even if it were true, what's the big deal here? Aren't we all hookers and junkies?

You don't literally have to be shooting heroin in order to be a junkie. It's a commentary on 21st century society and the tendency for many of us to sell ourselves (prostitute) in order to get what we want, but what we want isn't necessarily great for us (junkies). Just food for thought though.

Also, I don't get the impression that Melania would get butthurt about much of anything, and certainly not something like being called Russian.

And correct in part. Thank you.  The news story I read when the settlement happened said somebody admitted it.  Maybe the reporter. Defendants usually don't pay seven figure settlements unless there is fire to go with the smoke.  One of the elements of slander is that they knew it was false when they said it. If they didn't think that was provable, the settlement would be much smaller. Just my analysis. Others may disagree.

It's not just what happens if you become famous to the public, it's what happens if you want to do ANYTHING with cash totaling more than a few thousand dollars (obligatorily, $10,000, but sometimes less will trigger an investigation).

If you have accumulated a mattress full of cash and want to spend it, you'll have to do it in tiny increments, one pack of gum at a time. If you want to buy a house or condo you will have to explain how you came up with all that cash after filing zero income for taxes for the past many years. If you buy several thousand $ of stocks and bonds with cash, you're going to have to explain ... and so on.  It will catch up to you and you will have to pay back taxes and penalties.

Porn Star Brandy Alexandre used to be very vocal on the usenet r.a.m.e (rec.arts.movies.erotica). She posted that her father is a CPA and always did her taxes for her and that she always declared her porn cash income AND expenses and she encouraged other "cash income" earners to do the same.  Her CPA father knew all the regulations, so she could subtract panties, cosmetics and other porn related stuff as business expenses.

that any local law enforcement agency can just seize it claiming that they think the cash is related to some crime like drug trafficking, and it's up to you to prove it is not, which can take forever and bankrupt you in the process.  These law enforcement agencies can then keep the money for their own purposes like buying new weapons or donuts, or even giving themselves big raises.   It's like they become the crooks.

Many honest business people with cash businesses (small-time grocery stores, for example) have been victimized this way.

I am also the kind of person who will take out ten grand even if I only actually need nine, just so it doesn't look like I am trying to stay beneath the threshold. Paying taxes and having a business setup for at least some of your earnings to flow through should be part of any smart exit strategy.

By and large, LE isn't looking for indie providers that hard (they prefer to name and shame the "johns"), certainly not on the federal/state level. At the local level they're not likely to look at your small business tax records if they don't already suspect you're a provider, at which point I'd say you've already done something very wrong.
