...we seem to be missing anti-death penalty people about 6 threads down from here on zinaval's thread.  I fear they might be endangered.

I think it's that they all agree that people like that should be put to death. Anyone who could advocate letting two pieces of shit humanity like that live are worthless pieces of crap themselves.  I think they have all wisely chosen to keep their mouths shut.

"tie um to a stump, let the alligators and the snakes have their way".

To which I say, AMEN.

Just my opinion...

I have not seen them so quiet since 911.  I'm betting there's a hemp convention somewhere.  Or maybe the national Hacky Sack league is in semi-finals.

I sure do miss the little fellers.

that the two culprits in this case have not been sentenced to death nor are they near a time of being executed.

Most political groups appear at the most advantageous moments to highlight their cause. This is not a moment that would highlight their cause.

I mean, if you're not ever going to give it a rest, I'll take the anti...

First of all, I think it's sad and pathetic that you are so gleeful about this horrible situation. Yeah, I said gleeful - because you know that nobody could possibly defend the actions of these two animals, so you salivate over the possibility of getting into an argument with an unarmed opponent. Pathetic.

Second, the death penalty argument isn't about how guilty the criminal is, or about the extent of the crime, but about whether it's ok to take a human life under ANY circumstance. To say "Murder is wrong, and if you commit a murder, we will murder you" is indefensible.

Third, do those two people deserve to die? Of course they do. Many people walking the earth today deserve to die. There are also many people who have died who deserve to live. Can you give them that?

For the record, I would be for the death penalty 100% if I fully trusted the people who were meting out the justice. In this particular situation, I'd like to carry out the sentence myself, though I must be honest and tell you that it would take a long, long, time to complete (I have some medical training and believe that I could keep them alive for quite a while).

What IS all of the frothing at the mouth, baiting, name calling and broad, sweeping generalizations about?

My goodness. You seem to be much more concerned with picking a fight than anything else. As eloquently stated by Clarence37, the core concern over the use of the death penalty encompasses a key moral issue surrounding whether it is justifiable to take ANY human life. That, obviously, is a very complicated question and I won’t presume to offer an answer. And, acknowledging that this is a very slippery slope, and based on your multiple posts, I assume that any attempt at a reasoned discussion surrounding that question would quickly digress into a useless pissing match; which appears to be exactly what you’re looking for.

The crime in question here is absolutely indefensible. I find it nearly impossible to believe you would ever find anyone who would argue the opposite---regardless of personal/political beliefs on the DP.

Try to take some of that venomous energy and turn it around to a positive prayer of compassion for this innocent little girl, and all the people who will carry the pain of her death with them for the rest of their lives.

Hemp fests? Hacky sack? Moby Concerts? Jeesh.

I am starting to get really sick of this "daring" of yours to anyone who disagrees with you. Go to the P&R board if you want to create a political arguement.

To quote you, "Second, the death penalty argument isn't about how guilty the criminal is, or about the extent of the crime, but about whether it's ok to take a human life under ANY circumstance. To say "Murder is wrong, and if you commit a murder, we will murder you" is indefensible."

Is the death sentence for a crime considered murder? I think the use of murder as it applies to punishment is inappropriate. Our government is charged with the responsibility of protecting us, the citizenry. That responsibility falls on our court system, the judges and the juries they impanel.

Distasteful as it might be, it is not murder to carry out our civic duty. I was almost sitted on a jury of a kidnapping/murder case in which the State intended to seek the death penalty. I am absolutely opposed to murder but as a citizen on a jury I had to decide if I could vote to terminate the life of a person convicted of committing such heinous crimes. Believe me the attornies siting the jury were very determine to know your feelings before they would sit you.

That said, the fact that we have a court system like we do leans heavily towards mercy in and of itself. Is the system flawed and imperfect? Yes. But it is a great system and it is not designed to make its citizens murderers but to seek out  justice.

We seek justice, but is justice always done?  Obviously not.  It's a cheap shot for macho avengers to call for the death penalty in a horrible case like the child murderers -- who wouldn't agree? -- but it's quite another situation when people are wrongfully accused of dreadful crimes and spend years on death row for something they didn't do, as has happened many times, even fairly recently.  Where are the macho avengers in those cases?  I'll tell you where:  "Aw, shucks fellas, shit happens, let's have another beer...

...I think you have gracefully pointed out why some people don't use the Politics and Religion board.  Its because of replies like this that only restage the question.  But no worries, if you can't answer the question, question the question.  That just never gets tired.

I especially like the "unarmed opponent" part.  Making yourself the victim here is, well, expected shall we say.  I woulda brought the dueling pistols, but it sounds like killing people medically is something you spent more time dreaming about, in addition to falling on the sword or scapel as the case may be.

Your third point about who deserves to live or die - that really cleared things up for me.  Thanks!

Your spelling is impeccable.

If you want to fight so badly, you really should take it to the P&R board. I'm sure you'll find lots of libs willing to argue with you until you're both sick of the subject.

I'd argue with you about myself, except for the fact that I support the death penalty asa long as there is no doubt(reasonable or otherwise) about the perpetrator's guilt.

Sorry, pick another subject and maybe I'll give you the fight you so desperately seem to be seeking.
