My girlfriend and I were up late last night so we decided to watch a movie. This was of course after our pillow fight/wrestling/kissing/wet t-shirt contest...  Since that is what girls do at sleep overs right?? She picked a random indie movie called Dakota Skye. It was about a girl in high school that could read people's minds. She had no control over it, she heard her boyfriend lie to her, she heard her best friend, mother, even her priest lie to her but they did not know she could hear what they were actually thinking. Then she finds a boy who just never lies... They fall in love... Break up... Yada yada yada then live happily ever after lol  I wouldn't recommend the movie, but it was interesting to think about. I was saying how much I would love to be able to! But my girlfriend said no way! If you could have the ability, but no control, to read people's minds would you want to??  If you could control who you could hear, who would you want to hear first? Your friends, family, coworkers, randomly?

This is kind of like the if you could be invisible what would you do question... Just interesting to hear the answers

...but if you liked the premise of the movie, you might enjoy "What Women Want," starring Mel Gibson.  He plays a handsome, successful ad exec who acquires the power to read women's minds.  Never saw it, so can't recommend.

I'd want to in the sense that you would know what hand your opponent in poker has, or be able to fulfill a loved one's unexpressed desires...but wouldn't want to in the sense that all in all humans are pretty disappointing and it would suck to have all the more evidence of that. It sure would wreak havoc on the hobby - would providers really want all their clients knowing what they think of them?
