Why would a provider initiate contact in the first place?

This afternoon, I was one of roughly 200 gentlemen who received an email from a provider visiting New York City in the near future.  I know this because all of the email addresses were in the To field, not the BCC field.

So I, and everyone else, can see all the email addresses.  It's always interesting to see the varying professions and careers my fellow hobbyists hail from.  And I know this because a lot of guys not just use their personal email accounts, but their corporate work accounts!

Ladies -- this rarely happens, but please remember to BCC our emails when sending a mass message.  And, gents, really -- get a hobby account!  You're playing with fire when you use your personally identifiable account ....

Cheers.

even if you don't know them, you can quickly find out who they are.  This could serve as a tool for blackmail, harassment, etc.  Its why I am so relieved I started using a hobby account five years ago .... after a similar incident where I was using my personal account!

Sometimes even BCC doesn't keep e-mail addresses hidden when sending or receiving e-mail.

This has to be the 20th time in less than a year a guy has posted this on the General Board about US (providers) not knowing the functionality of Carbon Copy (CC) and Blind Carbon Copy (BCC)

When you CC that means everyone you sent the email to can see all the addresses you sent the email to...which means you outted people. In a perfect world anyone in the hobby would have their email address registered under an alias....but this is not a perfect world.

I get emails daily from all over the place with my email address being cc'ed and I can see everyone who got the same email.

When I am sending a email out to more than one person I put my email address in the top box....put nothing in the CC box...and anyone I am sending the email to goes in the BCC box....

If you still cannot understand what I am saying PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ME I WILL GLADLY show you step by step how to do it.

... this should be a wake-up call. It's up to us as individuals to make sure we maintain our own appropriate levels of discretion and comfort.

FWIW, I have no doubt whatsoever this was  unintentional and an accidental occurrence. The provider in question is a smart and experienced lady who does know how to handle email tools.

Shit happens; you clean it up and hope it doesn't leave a stain.

Of my website.

There is NO mistake when it comes to sending emails to my members and the people who have signed up can opt out of receiving the email's at any time.

I rarely send an email to all my members, maybe once a month, and mostly send out something to my local guys when I am hosting incall or when I am touring a specific city.

With a mailing list there is NO WAY that I could even possibly make the mistake of confusing CC with BCC, not that I ever would.

I am really sorry that this happened to you and it is just a lesson to anyone that they should always have a dummy email account for the hobby.

Not all women are created equal and some of them, unfortunately, are quite stupid.

Love Rae

Don't most providers go by the standard of not calling a client? Why should that standard be any different just because the mode of communication is different?

Any providers willing to weigh in on this?

Another fallacy promulgated by providers who don't think a hobbyist concerns with discretion and misuse of their personal information carry any weight.

The biggest losers will be responsible providers who will find it more difficult to screen hobbyist who are rightfully reluctant to give out personal screening information.

Any hobbyist who as anything to lose would be a fool to let his personal info fall into the wrong hands, and unfortunately who knows which are the "wrong" hands. All providers claim to be discreet, obviously some of them are being less than truthful.

Not really. There are top providers that have 'opt-in' email lists. The area I live in has few providers and I rely mainly on traveling ladies for my hobbying. I usually sign up on their mailing lists to be notified when they are traveling my way.
However, I use a hotmail account for my hobby email and do not mix it with my personal/work email and vice versa.

unsolicited e mails without "signing up" for anything.  I get them, one from a lady I've never seen, but emailed her once to set up a date when she was touring.  She ended up not coming here, but continues to send e mails. (ads)
Yes it does shoot a hole in that providers don't keep personal info. There are plenty of "less than discreet" providers out there who hang on to that stuff, only to cause a drama filled nightmare later on!  Lucky you, you seem to be quite naive about that!

where provider can do no harm, there is no such thing as B&S, ROBs, NCNS, and certainly never any misuse of personal information by providers.

Yes, he is quite lucky to be living in that fantasy world, until of course that world comes crashing down around him. Rofl

I get email, PMs, and phone calls all the time from providers that I welcome the contact as we are friends, and it is nice to hear from friends. I also recieve unwanted solicitations from other providers that really show a lack of decorum and discretion. Hobbyists beware, you never know where the information you provide is going to end up.

Very bad form, and a serious security risk/problem because one or more of the receivers is bound to be infected with a email harvesting trojan.

But in reality you should assume that any adult company you do business with will eventually compromise your email or more, because adult businesses are generally under constant attack by spam gangs who want to get lists of good email addresses for selling porn, phishing, blackmail, whatever.
